V1.0.4 another bad update for players
I don't recall seeing any feedback (or sending any feedback) asking to nerf the caravans and trading posts. i do remember asking for things like mid/late game content, quality of life improvements, and re-adjusting the food issues caused by 1.1.0.3..... yet here we are

GAMEPLAY TWEAKS

- Caravan now has its own stockpile of Treasure, and will only buy resources from the player up to that price.

- Increased cost of upgrading the caravan.

- Sell price for resources at the caravan is now fixed at 75% of the buy price. The sell values in XML are now ignored.

- Number of caravan specials is now based on a percent of the total resources for sale, rather than a fixed count.

- Reduced production of the Trading Depot (from 20 Treasure per turn to 15).

Yet these changes do make sense. Caravan's were nonsensical previously.

The game crashes about every 10 to 20 turns. This is the most unstable game I have ever owned and I started PC gaming in 1995.

There are a lot of ways to improve the caravan. I had an entire thread on it on the now deleted website. I may consider making a new thread on this topic

However, the point here is that nerfing food and caravans and I cringe as to what else Jon has planned Is not the answer.

His time and effort should be on improving gameplay, adding more fun to mid/late game, and dropping in ai scripts.

I know you'll have a ton of responses to that, but let me just say that
personally, your aggressiveness bothers me.

Designing a game and developping software is hard. I trust Jon choices and
decisions.

Meh the Caravans were massively overpowered.

No question the caravan needs work. My point is that you need to get the core features into the game first before balancing.

For example, Once the computer starts playing, the value and meaning of the caravan will change. There is no reason to take dev time to screw with it until you flush out the game play and see how it behaves

My priority for the first big patch (v1.1) is economic balance, and the caravan is a fundamental component of that. If you can simply buy whatever you need cheaply then the rest of the game becomes far less challenging. Choosing between investing in tools and food should be tough. Improving the AI will take time, and I want the game to be challenging and enjoyable in the meantime. Changing the numbers later after the AI has been improved will be a simple task now that the underlying system is in-place.

After the caravan I'll be working on the Romans, since the design intent is for them to provide some structure to the game once you're a few years in. Next is AI, and then diplomacy. Quality of life improvements will be made throughout this entire process, with a couple important screens seeing work in v1.2.

Ok, I have won on the hard new update. First find coal or pheat and get your digger to get you enough and turn one of your guys to be a brickmaker then you can find a stone mine and build it and turn one of your guys into block cutters. After 25 turns you should be able to build a stone coal shaft mine or pheat shaft. Only after you have 2 gatherer, 2 hunter, 2 harvester. you make sure you have bread maker, 2xmeat cutter. Slowly replace your food gatherers and harvesters to farmers and turn your hunters into ranchers and build the stone structures. Once you get all these up into stone you will only concentrate your energy on your technology. Try to get meat smoker, briner, meat butcher, preserver, bread maker and upgrade your guys to these professions ASAP. After that you can concentrate on the game. Good luck, it's not that hard!!!!

Like I said, if you get good rng it’s possible. In the group game, there is no peat or coal nearby. There is also only 1 berry patch not near barbarians and only 2 small groups of animals

There is stone so that’s doable but you’ll starve before you get the ranches up
