Caravan food exploit, Please fix
Is there any chance we can get the caravan food expoit (i.e., food converted directly into turns) fixed sooner rather than later? This really makes the game unchallenging, and thus much less fun. I've tried just not buying food from the caravan, but it removes a large element from the game (that is, over producing in one area to sell to the caravan and buy what you need).

It's kind of funny, entire let's plays and tips have been produced and promoted based on this cheat, and the writers/players don't even know they are exploiting/cheating...

Thanks

Yeah, it's definitely needed. In any case, I decided to just stop buying food from the caravans until it's fixed.

why should it be fixed? some game starts you cant play due to lack of food.
Elhoim 31 Jan, 2019 @ 5:46pm
Because it renders the whole food aspect of the game irrelevant? You should be able to buy food, but not a turn of food for 3 gold.

I'm new to the game, so maybe I'm missing something, but isn't food stored as turns anyway? How else would this work?

Food is produced and consumed like other resources. It's just that extra food is stored as a number of turns it will last as a function of the number of families you control in your clans. Each clan is made of 1 or more families. Each family consumes 0.2 food per turn. Hence, if you have more families & clans, you consume more food. Thus, buying 1 food when you have five families would convert to one turn. But buying 1 food when you have 50 families should, for example, convert to only 0.1 turns, thus requiring you to buy much, much more food as your civ grows. (In this example, 10 times as much food).

i find this sort of issue should be found in game dificalty setting.

for me if the devs do as you say, it probalby will ruin any fun aspects of the game. as i clearly lack the skill you have.

for you it ruins any fun aspects if its still in the game?

the differnce is dificalty and are chosen play styles.

by changing food access, the game will be way to hard for some players. this is why game trianer exist. because game are too difficalt and often delbratly made so.
i hate it when game devs delebratly make their games to hard for avrage players.

i want to enjoy a casual game not feel frostrated at how hard the game was delbratly made.

yet its not that hard to cater for both types of players. its called game difficalty.

Early on your tribe doesn't eat much more than 1 food per turn anyhow, so fixing the bug would only make it very slightly harder to survive the first winter. The bug gets more and more powerful the longer the game goes on.

Sure, whatever floats your boat. For me, it's learning the game.

When I stopped abusing the caravan exploit, I actually learned how food generation works and I was able to have a food surplus without much difficulty. Food buying should definitely be there, of course, but this ratio is really abusive. Ideally buying food should require a higher gold investment, and you could get what you need to go through the winter.

The food spoilage programming error needs to be fixed in conjunction with this. I have a game where I’m making almost 1800 food/turn and using 236/ turn, but I am producing -.2 food/ turn.

In the tool tips it says 96.88% of food above 72 is going to spoilage

you mean its make the late game playable for me.

what you really need ot request is dificalty levels.

whiel i be playign on ultra easy you cna paly on very hard and we both can be happy with the game.

removign what you feel isa bug and i dotn feel isa but would ruin the game for some and not really makea diffence to you really.

ah and there the real issue.

you used the expoint to learn to imporve. well im in the process of doing the same thing, abait probalby ata slow pace.

remove said expoint and i cant learn to improve, true i'm inclind to be one of those players that will likily enjoy tplayign of the easyest levels as i'm often not aftera chalange, as much a fun game to play while i'm doing other thing.

BUT for me the real kicker here is not the cheap food BUT how abserdly simple it is to make cash with traders if you have a sistuation such as the first map wher you have 4 rivers. 4 rivers and tax colelctor and i'm making 200+ a turn. the 30 food is nice but at that stage its not an issue.
also most caivans made ther bigest proffits from food sales. as its a staple most folks will alwasy need. a super market, is no differnt.

yet its the job of game dificatly level seclect to offer differnt hardness scale in the game. so folsk liek me can start on super easy and work up to god mode, over time.

this beign missing is for me the real issue. its helps us all have the game we wnat to play. sadly in reasont year game have been getting harder and harder to play due to the fact game ahve stoped botherign with game dificalty levels.

it ruins the game when they fail to add dificalty levels. as soem folks liek me will never be able to play as well as others. nor do we truly wish to.

For every non complete noob this exploit makes the whole food aspect meningless. If you have one tradingpost you no longer need to have food income at any stage of the game since you can just buy the food with the gold. That is not fun, it is broken, and should be fixed, also at lower difficulty levels.
greengoo 1 Feb, 2019 @ 10:00am
ah well, it would seam i'm in the manoraty here lol not a bother.

also noob is not what i would call other folks as its normaly seen as an insult.

to me it just some tihng folks who tihng there better in some way feel liek expressign ther dislike of folks that whant ot enjoy there game in a mannor you dont like.

ther is no current easy mode. this is an easy mode and helps.

my current game fornistance has me on negative 1 food permantly no matter how much food i'm producing.

which implays a bug.

so this exploit is also helping me.

the game erly access sold and compleate. so yea bugs in a lot of places.

still its fun for a while when your waiting for oter stuff to be ready. same witha lot of things.

@greengoo: the food display on the status bar is how many turns of food you have left, not how many units. If your tribe eats 10 units of food a turn and you have 200 food stockpiled, it will show you have 20 "food" (really 20 turns' worth of food.)

If you're not making any food, you're burning an entire turn's worth of food every turn, so it will always display your income as -1 regardless of how much food your tribe eats. If your farmers were producing exactly enough food to feed your tribe for the turn, your income would be +0. If you made twice as much food as you need, it would be +1 (every turn you're making enough food to feed the tribe for the current turn plus one extra turn.)

@greengoo: Don't worry. If this bug/exploit get's fixed it won't ruin the game for you. As you continue to play, you'll soon master food production, then want more challenge, and will then feel like the rest of us.

This really is a huge bug and in my opinion should be fixed asap.
