There really isn't any acceptable word that denotes what a plantation is. He has Estate up there but that actually does have 'colonial' implications as well - check out Sri Lanka for example. Homestead is more in reference to a rural home and if we are just going to call it a 'farmstead' we may as well just call everything a farm outright. Vineyard is too narrow a term.

Plantation may be an ugly word but it adequate identifies that it is a cash crop location.
