If you are wondering if you should buy this game or not, read this.
No. You shouldn't. The game is not receiving any updates for 1 year, it is buggy, unbalanced and you should not support it.

There is a plethora of better games on steam, don't waste your money on this money grabber.

Welcome to these forums. You are about 2 years late

We , well most of us, know the game is broken and abandoned. Watch out for the few fan boys that are still hanging on

I know it has been sometime but it is always worth let a warning for new comers.

Money grabber isn't the best wording for it. He spent quite a few years and all but went bankrupt personally trying to get it done.

He over-reached on a game genre that is insanely difficult to make as a solo dev, let alone a small team.
I agree that it's not worth buying, but there are games much more deserving of "money grabber".

Agree, but so much potential tho.

It's the last comment that make devs think it's okay to walk away from unfinished projects. I think it was P.T. Barnum who said, "There's a sucker born every minute."

It is a pity that the game is abandoned. The game has such a great potential...

Severely doubt he abandoned it. Likely just an extended break.
He put waaaaaay too much effort into it to up and leave without good reason.

If you don't believe me about it being abandoned, here is Jon's comments on ATG via twitter

AtG's original 2012 design actually didn't include clans so this was a huge design shift. I came up with most of the design on the fly rather than drawing inspiration from specific games. Much of that work was bottom-up, just plugging things together and seeing what was fun.

Not everything worked out in the end, but I do think I was onto something given the huge extent to which the strategy genre has shifted towards a character/narrative focus over the past decade. Wish I'd had a bigger team to flesh out the idea!

I say he is stating the opposite. He took the game in a new direction so other strategy games can't/aren't being used for inspiration. With such a small team we'll be lucky to have an update in 2021. I would love for at least one more update just so I can say "Told Ya clay"

See "Old World" by another ex-Civ-er (still like ATG's design better though)

This game goes on my list of "gems that fizzled", along with "Great Invasions" by Thibaut.

One day somebody's gonna get it right. Just Kickstart ATG2 already :)

Those twitter comments tell me he gave up on the game but is taking credit for the games that succeeded where we failed. Like Old World. Which is pretty upsetting given that he straight up said more updates were coming and than didn't even take the time to tell us he lied. I've supported a lot of failed games, but the only ones I lose respect for are the ones that can't even own up to their failures. The fact that the game isn't even flagged as Early Access is what makes me the angriest.

Sometimes things aren't as clear as internet warriors make it out to be.
Things happen. Life happens.

He went balls deep on the hardest game genre to make, coding wise. He ended up not in a good position mentally or physically. As in quite likely near death. He gave everything to the game. Literally.

(he may even be dead since as far as I know, he hasnt been seen anywhere in months)

His blogpost for anyone that cares.

Like that link is important and I'm glad he went through the process of writing that because it can help you address some messy mental situations. But I'm still upset that he bailed on the game without saying as much. I'm upset that the game isn't finished AND isn't labeled as early access. I'd still be upset, but not at him, if he took a moment to say he failed. But even at the end of that story he acts as though we succeeded and yet even time I try to open this game up I just want to tear my hair out because nothing works. It's not complete and there's nothing I can find anywhere admitting that this game is an unfinished and abandoned project. That bugs me, a lot. It's like a horrible cliffhanging and no one bothered to tell me there won't be a season 2.
