[Mod] Disable Shadows = Increased Performance
Hey guys.

I was trying to find a mod that disables shadows, and came across the shadow jitter-fix mod.
(LINK BROKEN)

Well anyways I was able to modify it to disable shadows entirely.
This has given me a massive performance boost, now I can run the game on Max settings without lag whereas previously I'd get some lag on Min settings.

Thanks to the creator of the shadow jitter-fix mod for making this possible, since I wouldn't have been able to do this without that mod.

{LINK REMOVED}

Instruction:
-Download config.rar from link above
-Extract to Program Files(x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\state of decay\Engine\
-The folder Config will now be inside the Engine folder, if done correctly

edit:
I've noticed when re-downloading my own mod that there is a config folder within
a config file.. make sure you're placing the config file that contains cvargroups into
the Engine folder, and not the config folder that contains another config folder.

Let me know if there's any problems
Enjoy!

Vincent

The shadow jitter fix link? or my gamefront link?
Simple Man 8 Jan, 2014 @ 5:29pm
Link in your OP.

isn't that where we would eventually get the file to replace the one in game files? its broken, doesn't download anything.

this link http://www.gamefront.com/files/23882704/config.rar works fine for me.
If you need to i can re-upload somewhere else, though I don't know where.

No problem; let me know if you have any issues.

How about supporting Nexusmods.com by posting this mod there please? As a long time user of mods, I won't download a mod unless it comes from a trusted mod site.

I'd also be interested in exactly what is in this config file.

Done and done.

Let me know if you have any further issues.

Also if the creator of the shadow jitter fix steps forward i would be grateful,
so I can formally ask permission from him, and so I can properly credit him.
(Proof would be nice of course)

So this is a modified copy of a file that is also in the config.pak file

The sys_spec_shadow.cfg was someone elses mod, which modified shadows to
reduce the 'jittering' of them.

I edited the config to remove shadows entirely.

So without it I wouldn't even have this mod, which is why I would like to get
in contact, if possible, with the original creator.

I didn't expect this mod to become 'big' I originally intended it just for my own use,
then decided to share it.
But now I'm worried I'll step on someones toes since it's not technically my own work.
(I wouldn't know how to get that sys_spec_shadow.cfg myself)

Which is why I asked if the original creator of that could come forward I'd feel better
with his/her permission to have altered the mod.

I understand and appreciate your feedback. The modding community (afaik) has been trying to figure out how to remove shadows without breaking game for some time, that's why I was fishing for information. ; ) I am not a modder, just a recent enthusiast who has done a lot of reading.

Very interesting! I'm curious about the loading order, etc of the files by game engine but I haven't read all the modding threads on UL forums with enough intensity to figure it all out so far, lol.

I'm currently using Brimstone Mod so I haven't tried this yet but the images you posted are nice!
