And that's coming from a person who hates Copyright.
With the exception of the F-200 (a Firefox ripoff) in UN Squadron, yeah.
I did said 'anyone', didn't i? TimeS can't do it because of the copyright. But any of you third-party modder can.
Can anyone give me some contacts as well?
Hell, anything. Would be amazing if we got in their good graces.
I'll admit, we didn't even consider Area 88 when VT was just lifting off. It just so happens we fell into the same lieu as them in aesthetics and tone, at least in my head, with what we're working on with the world and campaigns.
I've considered VT what an Area 88 videogame would've looked like recently, not really an Ace Combat lookalike anymore, in my opinion.
We're researching Area 88 a bit more and see what we can draw from it, and I have to say if we didn't acknowledge it, we would've lost on a lot of things. It was there before Ace Combat, correct me if I'm wrong, and it introduced the light of combat flight action and drama in print before AC got the chance, at least in the West.
Now Area 88 makes me feel all sorts of things personally, even if I haven't completely watched the series, but the rush of the kill, the nature of killing and mercy killing, the whole killing = money/escape thing, there are things we hope we can touch.
That being said I would've shot down Shin for a Klondike bar, but not for the sake of killing him, just to make his suffering stop.
and i think Area88 was also a big thing in japan for all these mil-aviation otakus.
some iconic jets are allready in, you could make a campaigne just around the F-14, F15 and J35 Draken alone, with tons of Mig21's as enemys and maybe 29's and SU27'S as boss enemys ... oh also starfighters could be used as redshirts, they're maybe not A-4's or F-4's but they are close enough hehe
Area 88 Manga[mangafox.me]
Anyways, too bad the Manga for Area 88 was never finished in English, and the chances of it being picked up by some company and translated at this point are slim to nil.
I'd have to say Area 88's popularity is at least somewhat responsible for Ace Combat's existence though, They have at least three things in common after all: Mercenary Air Forces, Super Weapons, and Canyon/Ravine runs.
On a final note, one thing that I really find odd, is that they got rid of the best thing about Assault Horizon in Infinity, the ability to paint your damn plane!
