Gatherer's hut: more tree means more food. A fully staffed gatherer's hut in a full forest (the number of tree in the circle) can generate enough food for 20 people more or less. Note that overlap circle will share resource and would reduce the overall productivity.
Gatherer's hut production: these are the kind of productivity you could expect from a good gatherer's hut.

Farm and pasture are the way to mass produce food because you can fit more into the same area the gatherer's hut need. On the other hand, orchard isn't very good for food production. Orchard tree will die randomly after the 4th year. Every dead tree will reduce the productivity. New tree will need 8 season to mature and start to produce food.

Productivity you could expect from farming:
- Crop: a 10x10 crop farm can produce up to 700 food per year.
- Pasture: a full 20x20 cattle or sheep pasture can produce from 1200 food (cattle) to 1800 food (sheep) per year.
Note that educated workers will produce more.
Having enough barn to quickly store harvested food would also improve productivity.
Post a few screenshot of your settlement would help.
Gathers and hunters are for the very early game. you need to expand to farms, orchards, crops, fishing, etc..
Do they have barns close by? Oh, and do you have enough labourers to cart all the stuff around as they are the life blood of your village.
BTW, I can't imagine a map with 26 Gatherers Huts on it. I'm pretty sure I never had that many when I did Tenure.
As requested above, a screenshot will probably go a long way to getting you sorted.
If properly placed your Gathers should be producing more than enough food when combined with Hunter and fishing
