Game failing to launch
When I press the "launch game" button in the steam library a white window opens in the top left corner, but after a few seconds the window closes and nothing more happens.

Edit i reinstalled the game and now it works again.

I figure you are either running Windows 10 (in that case check Steps 2-4) or you might be using a mod or addon which is outdated or broken (Step 1):

Neither of the steps (1-4) works. The error log says " Loading config '$profile:ccsettings.xml' "

Did the reinstall not work? Or you just replying?

Ok. I'm going to start by confirming some things with you and you just let me know what you've done so far.

1. For Step 1, you went to the following directory on your computer:

<Drive Letter>:\Steam\userdata\<Your Steam ID>\244030\local\addonpacks

or

Default steam install location inside Program Files (Program Files(x86) / steam...)

-----Please answer the following:

Were there any files in the addonpacks directory or was it empty?

Have you subscribed to any mods or addons from the steam workshop for Take on Mars?

-----

2. For Steps 2-4, you went to the following directory on your computer:

<Drive Letter>:\Steam\SteamApps\common\Take On Mars

or

Default steam install location inside Program Files (Program Files(x86) / steam...)

-----Please answer the following:

You tried setting compatibility mode on the .exe files in the directory?

Which compatibility modes did you try setting on the executable?

It might be worth giving this a try.. it's from another post about getting the same 'white screen, then game closes.'.

I did some digging and found this:

Which mentions hitting the play button, getting a white screen and then crashing to the desktop. This is the Step to follow in relation to that issue...

Step 14. If your game crashes or won't start with the following error:

ERROR : Device error : 88760868

Try uninstalling/reinstalling, or updating your video card drivers.

For step 1 i went to <Drive Letter>:\Steam\userdata\<Your Steam ID>\244030\local and i deleted the entire addonpacks folder. for step 2-4 i went to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Take On Mars. I tried launching the game with both compatibility mode for windows 7 and 8.

I run Windows 7 myself so it's kinda hard to suggest or have you try something and not be able to see the results myself or "have at it" myself to see if I could get things working.

Something I thought of though was what does the Windows event viewer say ? does it display any information on why it won't start or closes? and were there any other logs besides the error one you mentioned.

There is an empty "Campaigns.log" and there is a "Filesystem.log" that says the folowing:

Log C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\<My Steam ID>\244030\local\filesystem.log started at 22.10. 21:47:26

21:47:26:0292 R C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\<My Steam ID>\244030\local\ccsettings.xml

21:47:26:0303 R mars_locations.pak
21:47:26:0339 R mars_data.pak

(I have not subscribed to any mods/addons)

I also bought and downloaded another Bohemia interactive game (Carrier command) to check if that would work, but once again when i tried to launch the game i got the small white window in the top left corner which disappeared after a few seconds.
Do you have any of these installed on your PC? Most if not all are required for running games or applications nowadays...

Prerequisites - Certain games or programs may require the following:

Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 - 2017 x86 & x64 Versions (If using 64-bit Win install both x86/x64)
.NET Framework 4.7.2 or latest
Microsoft XNA Framework 4.0 or latest
Microsoft DirectX 9.0c
kriffe2004 1 Nov, 2019 @ 6:27am
I have all of those innstalled, exept i have Microsoft visual C++ 2015-2019, not 2005-2017.
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/app/304930/discussions/0/37470848547825681/

https://windowsreport.com/steam-game-instantly-closes/

I would suggest uninstall/reinstalling or rolling back your video card drivers to rule that out. The latest isn't always the greatest.

Also check your event viewer in windows 10, it might contain information as to why the game isn't running it may also show you other programs that are having problems.
