Build Contest/Scenario #81: Large Mining Ship
Continuing with the new "more sustainable" format. I'd love to have judges again so if anyone would like to volunteer, please PM me.

Build Scenario #81:
“Large Mining Ship"

Design a large grid ship meant for mining asteroids

Goal

Ship should be able to collect ore from asteroids
Ship must be able to function in space, but can also have capabilities to function in other environments. Can be a mining craft itself or a mining barge with small parasite miners. Small grids will contribute to the total block count.

Requirements
Note: Failure to meet any of the requirements will result in a DQ

0. NO DLC BLOCKS IF USING APPROVED MODS FROM THE MODLIST.

1. Should be a blueprint

2. Must be made for this contest or be a an UPDATE of a previous build. The date on the file should say the month this contest started at the earliest.

3. Everything must be 100% your original work (excluding scripts, etc.). Plagiarism will disqualify you from this and future contests.

4. Should be primary large grid blocks for the main ship.

5. 9,000 maximum total block count (this includes subgrids and small grid miners if building a mining barge). Exceeding this halves your score.

6. Must function in space.

Requirements Part 2
Not meeting a requirement in any of these requirement CATEGORIES will result in a -25% of the total score per category (if the contest is judged). This means you can only lose points at a max of 25% of the total score per category and not per individual requirement.

0. None for this one. Keeping things simple due to the relatively straightforward nature of the contest.

Important Notes
Remember to have fun!

Mods and DLC Rules

Since the contests no longer are assumed to be "judged contests", DLC is allowed (as it would inhibit unnecessarily). HOWEVER, if one does not use any DLC blocks, one will be able to use anything from a collection of pre-selected mods. This rule exists to allow for people who didn't purchase the DLC to remain competitive if the contest becomes a judged contest.

Just to clarify, one cannot use mods from this collection unless explicitly specified in the contest for that month UNLESS one ISN'T using any DLC.

It's important to note that judges are not required to own any of the DLC and any gaps/missing objects they experience are the responsibility of the ship creator.

"Areas of Significance"/Judging

Since these contests are no longer assumed to be judged by default, areas that the ships were previously judged on will now become "Areas of Significance". If the right number of qualified individuals privately message the contest host and wish to judge, the contest will now become judged on these categories. Otherwise, consider them design parameters to help guide the designs of your creation.

It is also of note that judges cannot participate in the contest they judge for (obviously).

Contestants are also encouraged to provide user feedback on other contestants' builds.

Two categories this one will be judged on

1. Wow Factor - how "cool" it is. This includes aesthetics and any interesting functionality. The more functional any of these extra/cool features are in the ship, the higher the score for this category

2. Functionality/utility - includes but not limited to how functional it is at performing its task (mining and collecting ore from asteroids). This is a measurement of practicality/"usefulness" for the ship.

Prizes

USUALLY, none. These contests are asymmetrical in their current form. Since I provide the prizes using my own money, I will not be providing them in the current contest format due to me not finding it "fair".

HOWEVER, that being said. I'm considering experimenting this contest and allowing prizes for any DLC free ships that are in the "top 3" entries. This seems the most fair way to make prizes available to all people regardless of if they own the DLC or not. The DLC can offer certain aesthetic options not available even with mods such as some of the block skins that can add a lot of options to builds. This seems the most "fair" way to re-integrate prizes back into these contests. I currently have a number of people who've been willing to volunteer as judges in the past so it's likely I might be able to try this system of prize distribution for this contest.

Feel free to ask any clarifying questions you have on this as I realize my wording may be slightly confusing.

Deadline

February 28th, 11:59PM, Samoa Standard Time or until the next contest is posted, whichever comes later.

Boilerplate (some of this is outdated, but I'd feel guilty deleting anything in the chance someone wants to use this template in the future)

The modification to prizes section was something I've been meaning to do for a while but never properly "rolled out". Considering I've had a good number of volunteers for judging recently. I hope to be able to try this system. If it goes well, I may make it a permanent addition in the future.

... with small parasite miners... lol that is weird way (for machine) to call small ship/drone, but it already gave me a idea of what to build for this one.

You don't need to do small miners, it's just an option. I have a mining ship I've been working on and off on for like 4 years (which I probably should just release soon) or so and it deploys a large grid parasite miner.

You could also build an asteroid eater if you wanted.

It's a very open contest in terms of what type if ship you can build, they just should all be focused on completing the assigned task of collecting ore from asteroids.

I just decided to redesign my large vanilla miner, so this is perfect.

this makes me think of a mosquito because of the length of the front

Here we go. Its small but its remote operated. 2 L cargo pods so its not that it can't move a lot. but it will be on the slower side when loaded. BUT it lacks the weight extra crew and Hydrogen engine systems would add. IT is NOT a ore processor.

If someone submits here instead of the submission thread (and it's clearly a submission, not a "look at this"), I'll probably count it as an entry. HOWEVER, the downside is that I may overlook it because it's not "all in one place". So technically one could submit here, they just wouldn't be guaranteed that it would be counted. The submission thread is a way to "have all entries in one place".

My images are just me sharing my progress and how my build is progressing, perhaps some methodology. Thank you for the reminder though, it was kind of you.

There i put mine up on that submission link.

I wonder why there are not more people doing this wile waiting for the update. Seems perfect time to build a fun side project. Scorpion drone is now on Mk4. Fine tuning for better performance and reliability. And aesthetics

There's still over a month left in the contest. That means a month to refine your design. Why turn your project in early when you could use the time to make it better, write some lore, take better pictures, etc.

There isn't any advantage in getting it done early. By submitting early, you're giving someone over a month to review your design, note the flaws, copy the novel bits, and beat your entry.

Patients, grasshopper.
