-> Click "Submit Bug" or "Request help" on Support Portal to have a SE Programmer helping you and tell you if they can fix or tell you how to fix :

Steps to do Before contacting a SE Programmer :
I recommend to test the following to know if the Host PC can at least run OK without planets and without Mods :
Create a brand new Sandbox named "Red ship v2" on default MP settings so you must disable Experimetal mode before creating the world, this one is already set creative mode and perfect for a Quick test, just set it on friends mode and load to see if better.
+
Set Both PCs game graphic on default Low before loading, you will be able to set Default Medium once both players in, well if all good.
Scroll down to title :
It's older solutions shared by players able to fix connection problems and worth to read.

Another thing you may try would be to change the Steam Download Region to see if better when using a different server.
2 - Click on "Steam" link/button in top left corner of your Steam app. and click Settings.
3 - A small Window will open for you to select "Download" on the left list and try other Region from the first option on top of the right side options (first on top).
+
Try the closest region to your home first but some said they tried a lot of different regions before finding a working one.
I sometimes Host a local world and same problem happens to my son but I just restart the world to fix, well I sometimes have to restart 2X in a game session.
EDIT
+ I have noticed it is because I lose connection to Steam for a few seconds.
-> Steam is down for routine maintenance every Tuesday.
