How does the Chapter Select feature handle the upgrade system? Is it like an autosave where whatever upgrades and the number of orbs you had at the last time you started that chapter are preserved, or are your upgrades set to some default and your orbs to some number or zero?

I just started Chapter 10, lost the race to Pigsy and I want to know if using the Chapter Select would mean I lose all my stuff.
