The best alternative for you to use, would be simply asking people if they would like your spare key on a first come, first serve basis. Also CHECK THE PROFILE of the person you're giving it to just to make sure the person doesn't own the game already. Doing this makes sure the person doesn't try to flip & resell the game for cash. Also check to make sure the person asking for your key isn't swimming in an already insane amount of games (I've seen accounts with over 5000+ games trying to scoop up more) It kinda makes them look a wee bit on the greedy side...
Practicing these steps help stop people using bot scripts and hoarders from abusing key drops. Remember don't feed the bot scripts. Rule number 1 when sharing keys on Steam: Don't share them openly on the post forums, tell people to add you to get their key from you.
