Orbs - Necessary to Collect Much?
I'm playing on normal difficulty (or whatever the default is called). Until chapter 4, getting orbs was pretty easy, but this chapter is proven more of a challenge. Could I conquer the game with collecting only the orbs immediately on my path, without side trips?

if you havent already gotten there the orbs are spent on upgrades which after a certain part of game the menu option will unlock.....theres actually quite a few upgrades to buy like fight combos, regenerating health, shield and ranged attack upgrades. Collect as many as you can find........ some of the upgrades arent cheap

Was already past that. Game progressing easily on normal, so far at least. I'm only getting the orbs in view. Not sure if there are secret hidden areas.

Hey! I think by this point, you already finished the game but to answer your question: no, you don't need to collect a lot of the orbs to finish the game. Just progress normally, buy some shield/health/staff upgrades and you should be good to go.
