What are those floating red bubbles for? Are they a currency in the game or maybe just to increase your score?

Phew... it's been a while, but I'm pretty sure those are the currency to buy upgrades...

Yeah you're right, i played 5 more minutes and it got explained.

I just wanted to know if it was worth it going around picking it up.

You need them to level up Monkey. Also, you will get nice archivement if you find them all.
