INFRA

Any other games like INFRA?
While we wait for the Whiprock DLC, are there any other games even remotely similar to INFRA? I know there's tons and tons of first-person walking sim/adventures on the market, but have you played any like INFRA, that make such convincing urban and industrial environments, with such immersive atmosphere and attention to detail?

I doubt I'll ever find one that tops INFRA for me personally, but I'd still like to try other ones if there's anything in a similar vein.

consider Stardrop, a space salvage company the gets embroiled in an intergalactic plot. There is no shooting. Also recommended is Painscreek Killings where you are a reporter tracking down a series of murders in a town.

I know of Stardrop, played the demo for it. Watched some gameplay and I might get it at some point since I like sci-fi games and I don't think I've actually played a 1st-person sci-fi adventure. (Closest is probably Alien Isolation, but that's quite different being a horror title with combat 'n stuff) I think I was gonna get it, but checked on the length and decided against getting it full price since it seemed very short? A walkthrough on YT finished it in about 5 hours...but then again someone also did INFRA in less than 5 hours and my first run took like 30-40 hours cuz I took my time haha, so maybe I shouldn't judge on that.

Painscreek Killings looks very interesting, and I like detective/murder mystery games. I'll definitely consider getting that at some point.

Thanks for the suggestions! Also, are there any INFRA mods out there? It seems someone (who worked on INFRA, I think?) was making some mods, but it's either on hiatus or proceeding slowly...

Painscreek Killings took me a while to warm up to, but I would say it is probably one the games coming closest to the experience of playing INFRA. Although there is not quite a game that I know of just like it ... it is truly a gem for me and I didn't even know that I want these kinds of games in my life :D I'm constantly looking to see if there is a new game by the developers, I hope there will be.

Edit: Actually, maybe The Occupation would also be something you're interested in :) check it out!

As the others above said, there are other games of the same genre as Infra (I personally would like to mention Electrix Electro-Mechanic Simulator, where you repair and hack cell phones and gather info about a conspiracy) -- but all the same, there is only ONE Infra!
I ONLY PLAY DRUNK 20 Jun, 2020 @ 5:07pm
There is a new game being developed called Urban Explorer that looks similar to Infra

I never played it, but it seems inspired in Infra with more action but no puzzle.

Added to wishlist, this one looks interesting. Thanks!

Wow, cool! Thanks for this thread

The reason I love Infra is because there are no real horror elements, or annoying chase/action sequences (bar the odd timed puzzle), just lots of puzzles, and exploration of large, open areas. If that's what you're after then I'd recommend checking out Obduction rather than the more horror-centric games like those mentioned above (which are usually not my kind of thing at all).

Thank you for the suggestion! I checked out the screenshots and it does look interesting and like I'd enjoy it.

I actually finished Painscreek Killings a couple days ago, btw, and it was pretty good. Not exactly a horror game, it's more just a mystery. A couple creepy moments, but nothing too much.

I've been thinking about why I like INFRA so much and just what makes it special, and really, it's a variety of factors. Obviously, the atmosphere. It has one of the most immersive atmospheres of any game I've played, thanks in no small part to the highly detailed environments, and the fact I love urban/metropolitan environments makes that even better. But it's also the total lack of a HUD and handholding. This is what truly allows you to get immersed in INFRA's environments, you never feel like you're being forced around or directed to any point, so your main focus usually isn't on progression, but taking your time to explore and see everything around you. All of that, combined with what a cohesive experience it is, how all the game's elements just blend together so well, sets INFRA at the #1 spot for 1st person adventure games for me.

"Kona", the Canadian first person detective puzzler, has a lovely atmosphere to it. It's not industrial - it's set in a snowy small town wilderness. I kinda hated it at first because I found it quite shonky, but the atmosphere really grew on me, and there's fairly realistic houses and other buildings to explore.

Oldie but goodie..."Riven", the first person point and click adventure, is set in a fantasy world, but grounded in a realistic style, and with lots of tangible, rusty machinery to figure out.

OH, and another one... "Silent Hill 2". It's a horror, I know, but it has urban settings of run down streets and buildings, that wonderful beauty of concrete gone to waste. It's incredibly atmospheric, beautiful music, and is just a beautiful, horrific, melancholic game. Some bits of "Infra" really remind me of it.

Was originally for PS2 (then a terrible HD "upgrade" for PS3). It was released for PC, as well, I have a boxed copy - doesn't seem to be available through Steam, though.

Portal 2 because it has Puzzles and Runs on Same Engine and Portal 1. (Portal)
