The dread of responsibility is making it hard to continue
So, I mostly bought this because I was curious about the whole urban exploration concept and the game does deliver on this pretty well, however, the thing that has me... kinda puzzled about this game is the way you are supposed to proceed in it.

Mark is just a guy who is supposed to check if the places are safe or not. But occasionally, you have to meddle with stuff to proceed. However, you can meddle and fiddle with way more things than you are required, making me wonder how the heck am I supposed to play this.

I feel like it's that sort of game where playing it blindly will 100% result in me becoming an accidental ecological terrorist as I fiddle with machinery I don't understand. But skipping on fixing some stuff will result in the same thing. Thing is, I have no idea most of the time which switches do what and how they are connected to each-other.

I want to keep going, but every second I am tempted to just open a walkthrough guide to make sure I won't ♥♥♥♥ up and do something wrong that will result in me having to leave area early or a bad ending. I am too afraid to experiment to try and solve puzzles myself. I am not sure if it's a healthy way to approach the game for enjoyment, which is why I am kinda curious how much of what I say is even real and what risks the game actually has.

Many of the puzzles and things you can interact with in the game are optional, but you don't have to worry about consequences on the scale you are thinking; some of them will have an effect on the ending, but there is no early bad ending you can lock yourself into by messing up a puzzle or anything like that. There ARE multiple endings, but these come into play at the very end depending on how much you accomplish throughout the game.

See, the fact that they do affect the ending makes me anxious. Right now I am in the area after the Tunnel collapse, where I was only able to explore... probably 50% of it before I was forced to escape it, which made me think it's my fault because I did things in the wrong order. And now there is a note that clearly says there is polluted water that Mark aka me can accidentally leak into the water pool by trying to figure out a puzzle . The result is that I feel like by touching puzzles - I will basically get myself into a bad ending at the end, where my actions only negativly impacted the city, making me wonder if ignoring anything I find complex is a safer solution unless I am ready for a VERY big scolding at the end of the game.

If it helps any, and with as light spoilers as possible.. there is only one truly bad ending to the city, and this is not effected by your actions throughout the game, but instead by whether or not you succeed during one of the final sequences. I can also tell you that, in regards to what you said (no spoilers for anything you've played through): the tunnel collapse is unavoidable. It's part of the story, so there was nothing you could have done to stop it.

The city IS messed up. You are finding out about a lot of problems that have been either undetected or because of poor management. You are doing YOUR best to fix things even though they are beyond your normal level of expertise. Don't sweat it. Every thing that you CAN fix is a plus. Dive in, get your feet wet but stay away from live electrical wires and exploding gas leaks. You're doing great. :goldengoblet:

Alright, thank you all, I'll keep playing the game. If my biggest fear (aka Mark is being verbally destroyed for touching things he wasn't supposed to and essentially making everything worse) isn't something the game will do, then I think I can endure feeling dumb about valve puzzles and get some nice urban exploration going.

The cool thing about INFRA is that you can do as much, or as little, as you want. If you don't feel comfortable messing with an optional puzzle and fear you may break something critical, that's fine; at the end of the day, Mark has a job to do, and the job you've been assigned is more or less surveying the damage and reporting it. If you wish, you can branch out from your expected work and try to directly fix many of the city's problems, and also uncover a lot of hidden lore and secrets hidden away in many areas.. there are a LOT of things to find and do in INFRA.

TL:DR you will not be punished for doing more than just your job.

You are not actually required to fix anything but the thing in the last chapter (The nuclear reactor) to get a good ending as thats kinda vital to the game.

If you just do your job throughout the game as in, reporting infrastructure damage then it will be fine, but going the extra mile and repairing the various places you get to is well worth it, but do know that it is entirely optional unless you want the best ending.
