Is the difficulty legit?
Hi, new here.

I'm no pro at racing games but I can keep a car on track and understand racing lines. Anyhow, I started this on EASY as I thought that would be a good way to get a feel for the game before doing anything more difficult. Kicked off my career in Touring and in the first event I've immediately got the entire field just absolutely destroying me.

I didn't have a single off, and took the corners reasonably well. Even in the reverse grid race I had all 15 cars past me by about 5 corners into the race.

Surely that isn't reasonable for an EASY mode? That just makes you feel too far off to catch up.

What's the deal? Am I grinding XP for car upgrades right from the get-go or something?

Confused.

Dude this game isent for you if you are a completly noobie too racing games. You should try out Forza Motorsport Apex, the game is in beta but there is much easier A1 level there plus they arent that agressive either like in Grid Autosport. Plus the game has a hell lot more stuff that makes it much more easier too win races etc. Try it you would not regret.
Yeah, on easy you shouldn't be getting destroyed in 5 corners.

Take it as a challenge and work your way up to harder difficulties.

some of the settings in easy mode actually make it harder to drive, almost like you are fighting the car, try to experiment with them one at a time to see which ones help you and which ones do not.

Thanks, Yeah it seems a bit off. I note the comments above about taking it as a challenge and that this game is meant to be difficult. But just the idea that off the line cars all just zoom past me when I'm full throttle just doesn't make sense.

I have started to improve whereby I can keep them within view for the race, but I'm still ~10 seconds off the back of the grid in a race...

What assistance do you have on? What input method do you use?

Game doesnt work brilliantly on keyboard, but is do-able. Best using a gamepad (I use an XBOX One controller) or steering wheel. The Driver aids will slow you massively, turn off traction control and the difference in the faster cars can be more than 10% top speed difference at least. In career mode the hardest races are the very first few that compete in the endurance championship, these can be very very difficult even on easy. Personally i didnt find much difference between quite a few of the AI difficulty levels. My top tip would be to practise in solo custom races to learn the car mechanics and AI idiocy in a car class thats easy to drive. (i.e. The Group C touring cars, pick the chevvy cruize and have fun)
The AI was coded by a demolition derby fan.

I use an XBOX elite controller. But perhaps there's merit in the EASY mode distribution of driver aids. I'll play around with turning some of those aids off.

Understatement.

I play on hardest difficulty and regularly beat the AI by 1 - 2 seconds per lap

You want to play some multiplayer? I got plenty of people in a group to play with.
