How to remove rubber band effect
I have now tested this and it does indeed work.

Go to yoursteamfolder/GRID Autosport/AI and either delete or rename catchup.xml

Restart GRID Autosport.

Before, when qualifying I would always qualify in 1st but in the race other ai cars would always set a lap time 2-3 seconds quicker than my best. This was due to them having a 1.2 x normal power when they were behind you.

Now their laptimes will be correct. If you were 2 seconds faster than them in qualifying then you'll be about the same on race day (assuming you drive as well as you did in qualifying :) )

You'll also now be able to lap people on longer races, and they won't zoom away from you on the starting grid :)

The down side to this is that the races may not be as exciting as before.

isnt this eh, cheating?

Not at all, at least in my opinion. You're racing against the AI fairly now. As long as it's in single player

only if you don't turn the skill level up :)

or one could argue that before it was the AI who were cheating....either way you don't have to delete the file :)

Somebody was saying in the other thread that after doing that they couldn't save the game in custom cups. Are you able to save a custom cup after renaming the file?

You want to get banned? Because this is how you get banned ;)

Someone on this forum already changed files like that (copied files from GRID2) and got banned. If your game files aren't the same as the original ones it can, and most likely will, get picked up by Racenet (or whatever anti-cheat they use) and the banhammer will follow. I'm not saying I'm 100% sure of this, but I have seen the result on this forum already and would advice against it.

Edit:

Here are the topics I was talking about

Everyone else who has tried this, says it disables saving.. so it's still not fixed yet

In the threads you linked to there are quotes from the devs saying that they encourage modding the game as long as it cannot be considered cheating in multiplayer.

Removing or modifying the AI rubber-banding/catchup behaviour imparts no advantage or disadvantage to you or any other player in multiplayer games, therefore you will not get banned for doing so.

Yup, you're right. Can't save after deleteing the file.

However, I'm sure someone will come up with a way to edit the file without effecting saves.

Obviously, modifying your files will mean you won't be able to play online either.

Have you tried using a hex editor? Apparently that was required when editing the same file in Grid 1.

Hope so, but I am not taking the risk. That guy that copied his files actually got banned. That's enough for me to consider it a big nope. If someone else wants to risk it, feel free, report your findings :)
How do you save the game while doing this?
