Keep in mind that the offline component of all these DLC is rather lacking, so the MP is even more important for the DLCs

Party is spot-on with his comment on how worthwhile the DLC is. I think the entire pack is worth $15 for my uses, but you won't see the money value pay off unless you play in a group consistently. For that, I recommend our group GRID AutoSport Racers, where we do league events as well as community/casual events every week, even most weeks during off-season :)
Personally, my use of the DLC has been for Sprint tracks (in and out of GASR group), the bonus garage slots and cash, and the XP boost is nice as well. The bonus tracks are also interesting, and I do like Drag :)
You cant unlock these cars via carear?
These cars aren't available in Career, only online. You still have to buy them online for in-game money just like the vanilla ones.
The black edition of the game, well.. it sounds like DLC but it was built as "special edition" of the core game instead - it comes with some bonus white-color Ravenwest liveries, extra custom livery decals, and the availability to buy a special Mercedes car for one of the car classes, but it's not essential in the least.
There are 40 car classes in the base game and only in one of them is a DLC car slightly overpowered, that's the McLaren F1 GTR.
“Slightly” is a bit of an understatement there. But otherwise, yes, DLC cars are often good alternatives to vanilla cars, but not overwhelming
