unable to get out of cell at start

Hi,
it seems my fullscreen display is too large, at the start in my cell i am unable to use the shiv on the mattress, i saw the option once when first installed, now it seems to be always just off the screen, i only have the option to search the bunk.

i first ran it at 1280*720, tried 1080, it freaked, went back to 720 and it hasn't been the same since, have reinstalled multiple times, searched the forums and found no solutions.
has anyone had the same issue? i can't get out of the cell at the start and quite keen to play the game.

sorry for late reply and thanks for responding, still quite eager to try the game out, i have tried a couple of reinstalls to see if i could get it working but to no avail. i look forward to any solution.
