Map Making -- Mods to Use and Mods NOT to Use
Hi All...

After playing Cities Skylines for almost a year and almost 2,000 hours of play, I'm ready to make my own map.

Background Information
I currently play my game with about 5,500 assets and 120 mods. It's my understanding that you cannot simply start to build a map while still subscribed to all the assets and mods you play the game with.

I have all my mods and assets set up in collections so I can easily unsubscribe and resubscribe them at will.

In addition to my 2,000 hours of play and being familiar with landscaping and water, I have also watched a bunch of YouTube videos on map design and water control, so I'm not going into this completely blind.

Questions
What types of assets can I still subscribe to while creating a map? (I know I can use trees.)

What are the best mods to use while creating a map?

Which mods that I use to play the game are best to use while creating a map?

@MrMiyai -- Thank you soooo much for taking the time to reply to my post. I really appreciate it. I have updated my collection of map editor mods to reflect your suggestions, especially removing the "cross the line" and "no border limits camera" mods.

I'm planning for this map design to take months. I'm not going to rush this process. I'm striving for quality in all areas of design.

Cross the line at map creation ?

I dont get it, you can completly free move and work all over the map ?

Very very helpfull if you make islands and need so to place harbors for start

Thanks for the info. I read the mod's description and it will work great in map editor without it being a dependency later.

"Find it" together with the "more network stuff" and you can place harbors.

Make sure you place the harbors as very last with no time running, else they will shut down because of no water, trash service, elektricity. Cant remember exactly why but i had one island map the harbours didnt work for some reason, and i MEAN this was the reason

I don't think I'll be placing anything permanent in my map because I want it open for players to imagine and create on their own, but that's very good information. Thanks.

ohh and mae sure you NEVER place (surface high) pedestrian paths, they are invisible on the map.
Means if you place a intersection with pedestrians you will have a bad time to delete them if you need.

Hi Priest. Yes, Cross the Line is made to be used inside the game itself. The map editor already has this function: you are not restricted by any lines. It didn't cause me any problems inside map editor when I had it activated, but it's best to deactivate any mods that are not necessary for making a map. You can wander around and build the map from all over the map. Start Cities, click Editors on the main menu, then click map, new, and you'll see what I am talking about :)
