Parks = ZERO COMMERCIAL Demand
So, having a nice large city spanning multiple tiles I find my self with Industry demand booming as well as residential but my commercial demand is zero!

The problem with this, is that, my industry is starting to abandon due to no consumers to rid the products to and with Zero commercial deman, I am unable to expand the consumer base per sey.

So, trying to find solutions to the formentioned problem, I start backtracking after multiple attempts at trying to resolve the issue through various efforts such as lowering taxes, increasing desireability etc etc to no avail.

I start re-shaping my city and having to go back to the land of time by basically deleting everything to see how it would affect the end game - to my surprise my commercial demand started to gain traction again.

Now, I'm not entirely sure as to why or how but for me (anyways) it seems to be the problem with "parks" and other "decoration" assets.

Anyone facing this issue, be free to experiment and try the said above.

I have the same problem, I will delete all my parks too, and see if that boosts demand,

it's all over their official forums. It's a problem that needs to be addressed soon.

No problem, just tried a resave to see if it was due to "workshop" assets only but it seems that in-game content also affects the demand... strange. Hopefully it will be fixed as surely it is a bug.

Ah, nice to know Mechanical Lions, thanks. Wished I would have explored the fanbase circular but at first thought it was due to poor building or layout etc. Cheers.

For now, just download some parks, open them in assets editor, and set 0 on tourist, and save.

General idea is that if people are in parks and plazas they aren't at stores. Since the game is trying to be logical, each person is accounted for. The modifier seems to be pretty punishing though.

The offset for this problem is tourism. It will send the scales the other way. The problem is it's probably too hard to balance that at first. I might agree with some other people that parks should be used more strategically. I don't know fi they are really wanting to have the same gameplay as SC4 wher eparks and plazas are just "boosters" and can be used haphazardly. I think their idea is right, but right now the math seems wrong and hard to address other than using parks VERY minimally and making sure tourism can counterbalance.

Or as Iceman said, turn to just editing what you can for now.

It's really strange since I don't have this problem at all and I am using parks and props all the time. I have build a few cities already and never had any issues with commercial demand. I actually think the commercial demand is way too high in my cities, seeing that there is easily the equal amount of commercial area as there is for residential in a 100k city. But I don't doubt that others experience this bug. It's just weird that it hasn't occured for me yet.

Does plopping trees cause tourism? Or is it just the parks themselves?

Trees are just decor. They cannot have visitors. It's only for parks since they are attractions.

Also I made a post about how you can workaround here with more info.

I wonder what causes this. I have lots of parks in my city and lots and lots of commercial demand. It's almost like I can't get the commercial demand to go down. With that being said I have lots of schools around my city so I'm not sure if that is was is making the difference.

The Devs should consider a few things in their simulation.
Green spaces and leasure spaces are mandatory to happiness, but of course too many are a bad thing. But there are not only stay-at-home parents but youth to consider. Apparently right now the simulation is all about the worker. But even they need sunshine on the weekend.
Play is important. Even soldiers get R&R
