Asset editor - thumbnail
Can anyone explain how can I use the thumbnails/tooltip featuire in asset editor? It's cool that I get a folder that opens the location of the default thumbnails. Shame I can't change them, select them or whatever. I substituted the files in this folder with another image (screenshot resized and trimmed to the correct size), but the asset got saved with default thumbail anyway.... This sucks - really. I mean - I was so happy about the ability of getting rid of those pesky placeholder white icons, but it turns out that this new "awesome" feature is useless/counterintuitive/screwed up/whatever.

I really miss the times when games came out when they were ready and had DECENT documentation, like 100 pages of manual with every single clickable button explained (Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura manual was like that).

Or, more relevant, Simcity 4 Manual[futurecity.org] Yeah, I really miss the good old days. :-(

Ok i will try to explain briefly. Open a new asset...select whichever asset you want to modify or create be it a police station or a new park or your creation. Make your asset. Take a Screenshot for the tooltip picture. This will need to be resized to 492x147. And a Screenshot for the thumbnail (109x100). I have both of those as .png files. Edit those .png pics to your liking..put text, remove background, save the 497x147 as asset_tooltip and save the 109x100as asset_thumb put where you can find. Now go back into the game and enter the save menu, use whatever title and asset name you like...but DONT SAVE YET. Tab out of game, Go to
C:/Users/YOURNAME/AppData/Local/Colossal Order/Cities_Skyline/AssetStagingArea
open whatever file is in there. Paste your new .png icons in there replacing the existing ones. Go back in game. You should see your new thumbnail and tooltip pic in the save menu. Save it. and thats it..go check to see if it worked.

Thanks! I've figured it out myself, but it didn't work the first time. I *think* I might have srewed it up myself and save images as .jpg instead of .png. Now it works like a charm.

IMPORTANT: The only thumbnail you have to change is the asset_thumbnail.png. The rest (active/inactive/hovered) are updated by the game itself.
