Problems with Graphics or Crashes? Look here!

1) (MAC ONLY) Disable Steam overlay by rightclicking it in your Steam library, Properties and unchecking "Enable Steam Overlay while in-game".

2)If your game crashes on startup, try moving the te4-web.dll out of the games folder. Also update your graphics and audio drivers and change your default audio device to a different one.

3) Make sure to disable all addons (only for crashes after Main Menu), happens especially after patches which change the game code.

4) (WINDOWS ONLY) If your game crashes on saving/exiting, make sure to run it as admin under windows.

Many crashes, especially right after launching the game, are caused by a lack of support for shaders by your graphics hardware. To disable shaders follow these steps:

5a) If you can get into the menu, turn them off in Options->Video Options.

5b) If you cant get into the menu because the game is crashing on launch:

Use this as launch option in Steam (rightclick-properties in Steam library):

--safe-mode
With 2 minus at the beginning, no typo here.

This should disable shaders and hopefully fix the crash.
If it works, remove the launch option again, so it doesn't keep resetting your options.

6) If you are still crashing, make sure to post the te4_log.txt with a description of your problem, your operating system and graphics card in a new thread:

WINDOWS: Use this as launch option in Steam (rightclick-properties in Steam library):
--flush-stdout

This makes sure all infos is instantly written to the logfile.
Now start the game and do whatever you have to do to crash it.

Find te4_log.txt, it is located in the games directory, same location as the .exe.
To get there, rightclick the game in your Steam Library->Properties->Local Files->Browse Local Files.
Upload the logfile somewhere like pastebin.com so we can take a look at it.
Remove --flush-stdout launch option as it decreases the games performance.

LINUX:
For Linux users, the log is not automatically generated. You will need to run the game with something like > /home/te4_log.txt added to it. You can also add this to the launch options via Steam if you are using it.
Upload the logfile somewhere like pastebin.com so we can take a look at it.

7) In very rare cases your visual c++ redistributeables might be corrupted, reinstalling all of them could solve your problem.

When I click 'play' button I get a message saying steam_osx quit unexpectedly.

I have the Mac version. The last DMR free version of the Mac game works (1.2.5). Current version (1.3.0) crashes on startup, the same way the previous posters described.

Try disabling all unofficial addons, they might not be compatible with the new patch, especially Respec Anywhere which seems to be the culprit.
If it works without addons then look for addon updates that are compatible with 1.4.

I've never had any trouble running tome4 but now I can't seem to get a new game started. The main menu seems to be working as it should.

Judging by your log I seem to be having similar issues although I'm running arch linux and a vanilla install of Tome4.

NOTE: I'm running the game (./t-engine64) via terminal just to get the logs. Not sure if that matters since it doesn't work either way. Any help is appreciated although I have a feeling that this is on my end.

EDIT: Nevermind the game had synced some mod I had previously installed and I didn't think to look and disable it in the addons. It works fine now
