Are you playing with the unofficial patch or without it?
Check that your config.cfg file (located inside Bloodlines > Vampire > cfg) is not set to Read-only. This could be preventing your changes from being saved.

You can edit your keybinds from within the file. Just be sure to re-apply the Read-only attribute afterwards so it doesn't get changed again.

I managed to fix it. the CFG file was wrong with its mapping for Feed. Seems to be an issue with the game IDK if its because its American or not but the word was wrong so I changed it to +feed and now it works. Very strange issue.

This is not true. I and others have played the vanilla game 1.2 on modern hardware without issue. However even if you do have issues launching the game on modern hardware there are other solutions than installing the unofficial patch (the unofficial patch, even the basic version not just plus, makes many changes to the original game).

For example you can use the modified executable and .dll files here. This allows you to play the absolute vanilla 1.2 version of the game on modern hardware, without changing any content in the game:

I posted here several time that it is possible to play vanilla with the Unofficial Patch as well without downloading anything else, it is even mentioned in the readme. Why do you always ignore this and sent people to this obscure site? Are you paid to get clicks there ;)?

Unofficial patch basic IS vanilla, stop gaslighting people.
Nothing is changed.

And your versions is just a worse experience with more work. There's already another thread where me and † ßâd•£üç]< Îñç™ are documenting what exactly happens if you try running vanilla without the patch. It's no way to play this game and you know it.

Well, you "can", if it works, but you really shouldn't lol. I tried it recently, not a great experience.

Anyway, i'm glad the solution worked for you. :)

I tried it too yesterday and it ran ok but looked pretty bad. I don't see how it's better than just using the Basic Patch or the SMP. Both those patches run smoothly and look good.

Buddy, the game is PLAYABLE with the Unofficial Patch. If we have to get semantic about it. The game might boot up without the patch but it certainly is not playable. Unless you like to flog yourself with a whip.

That Patch is also for speedrunning. Speedrunning isn't actually playing video games.

Yeah, he doesn't seem to have much more than an aggressive opinion.

It certainly is playable, able to be completed, and enjoyable to play as I have played through the entirety of the game very recently in vanilla 1.2. I had no crashes to desktop and no major bugs. Only bug of note was getting stuck on a door at one point in the game, and I'm pretty sure issues like getting stuck on objects and physics bugs still exist in the UP versions of the game since it's an engine issue.

That patch does not alter the game. It is so speedrunners have a baseline version of the vanilla game that runs on modern hardware that they can use for competing, because they can't have everyone playing some different, altered version of the game. It does not change any content in the game or do anything specifically related to speedrunning, it is nothing other than the vanilla 1.2 version of the game with technical fixes, in the form of the modified exe and dlls, to ensure it launches reliably.

I'll grant you I was being aggressive in the other thread, but there is nothing aggressive about my posts in this thread. If anything you and dweedle are being aggressive towards me for saying the game can be played without the UP, either without any modification or with less intrusive patching. It is also not my "opinion" that the game runs and plays well on modern hardware, it is fact, and I have provided video evidence of this fact.

This is pretty much how it felt playing it.
Combat AI would break and stand still, LOD models and animations triggering too close to the player, jack's mode glitching to the floor or dropping down from the ceiling to his spot in the tutorial, any loading screen was liable to freeze, subtitles didn't work the first time i tried it, and on top of it all, it looks horrible on modern screens, especially big ones.

I have a 1440p 32" monitor (cheap one, but still, big area), and stretching 1600x1200 over that is just godawful. Not to mention the lower resolutions. And they're 4:3. Which, fine whatever, wouldn't bother me too much if it all didn't look like smeared paste.
And i know the original didn't look so bad because of CRT monitors, and smaller screens and resolutions at the time. It was made for that, not for what we have now.

Vanilla might run, and it's "technically playable" if you want to be anal about it, but no one should play this game like this. Especially not people who never played it, because it's just a worse experience overall, and not indicative of this game's quality.

I'd hate for someone to play vanilla, have it look like crap, and potentially break every now and then, then them hating the game for it because of the techincal issues that could have been avoided by just installing the basic UP.

Exactly. There'd be a lot of bad reviews the game would hardly be on the map if at all with out the UP.

That "patch" is just a collection of executables taken from the Unofficial Patch to be installed manually. You can much more easily just run the vanilla game from the patch itself as I have stated often enough! Still you never mention it because you want to push that site or what?
