I don't think that was ever a thing. However, characters using the PC models for the other clans wearing various usable armors do show up in the audience. They are not from your old save files though. Perhaps that is what you were remembering?

Which of the playable characters appear at the hotel and theatre depends on what clan you have chosen. IIrc if you've picked Gangrel you will be treated to a jumpscare of a zoomed-in female Nosferatu's face.

Playable clan models do show up in the theater after your embrace--along with other NPCs you will meet later. They are there in context to represent their clans and be made witness to you and your sire's trial and judgment by the local domain's Prince for the Camarilla. Many of them will appear again near the end of the game during your bloodhunt. It has nothing to do with other characters in old saves.

One of the cooler little touches is when starting a new game during the intro you'll see player characters from any previous saves in the audience. This isn't even a case of using default models as the characters are in later game armor if you were wearing any.

This is where I remember what the original poster is talking about. Probably a false interpretation by the Troper and the unnamed audience members are just random models, not at all related to your save files.

Definitely a misinterpretation. That much is easy enough to prove. Just delete or move your old save files and start a new game. You'll still see those other characters in the audience.

I don't think it's all that random either. Possibly semi-random, but I'm pretty sure it's just a selection of characters that are in different clans from the one you're playing as.

It's not really random, just made so you don't see your own character of course ;).
