game will not start
It will stay on the first white screen, then closes and in a little white box it says engine error cannot allocate 200 mb

You need to install the Unofficial Patch. The link is in the pinned thread.
That makes the game run on modern systems without errors.

I have a similar problem but in my case the game begin and after a short intro crashes. The patch don't work, is almost a mess, and I can't play.
