Hey there is our permanent server open 24/7:
alavanguard.ddns.net
port: 7500

/!\ you need to check the "DNS" box (just under the address bar)

The latest freeware version of the game can be found on the wiki
http://wiki.mizuumi.net/w/Vanguard_Princess
for now it's th 1.08e > http://ge.tt/4Wqpbsb (contain MTSP already)

Everyone is welcome,
It's an european server, but like it's the only permanent server we have american and asian too.
I'm often there, I can help or play with you if we have a good ping.

btw it's not ggpo, greetings are appreciated, respect people on the chat, don't just come, challenge people without any word and leave right after... I think I don't ask anything big, just be nice ^^.
We're a little community, everyone will agree it's better to have friendly atmosphere ;).

--------------------ORIGINAL POST--------------------

Until eigoManga releases the official multiplayer DLC/patch for Vanguard Princess Steam, here is a way to do online multiplayer with MTSP:

1. Download both Vanguard Princess and the Director's Cut DLC from Steam; This ensures everyone will have the exact same version of VanPri, otherwise some people will not be able to play with eachother.

2. Download this package.[1drv.ms] This comes with the game runner from the freeware version of VanPri, and MTSP (the client used for networking).

3. Navigate to your download location, and unzip the package. Open the new folder, select all the items inside it, right-click, then press "Copy".

4. Open up Steam. Go to your library, right click on Vanguard Princess, then click "Properties". Click on the "Local Files" tab, then click "Browse Local Files". This should open up the folder where Vanguard Princess is installed at.

5. Right-click on empty space in the folder, the hit "Paste". Left-click then Right-click on the file labeled "vanpri.kgt", click "Copy", right-click on more empty space, and paste. Left-click, then right-click on the file (it will likely be named "vanpri - Copy.kgt), and click "Rename". Rename the file to "vanprinet.kgt", and hit Enter.

6. Open up MTSP.exe. For now, just tick the bubble that says "Server", and hit "Okay". Next, you'll be asked to set the Game Executable Path. Click okay, then in the next screen click the top box that looks like this -> [...] It should open to the Steam folder where Vanguard Princess is installed, however, it it doesn't copy & paste this into the address bar and press enter: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\vanguard-princess Click on the Icon that says either vanprinet or vanprinet.exe, then hit "Okay".

7. Click over to the Tab that says "Game" and set the variables as so:
Max. Stage # = 1
Random Stage = 0
# Of Rounds = 2
Game Timer = 60
Simulation Delay = 2 (This actually depends on your ping, but 2 is a good starting point).
Everything under Startup & Titlebar is person preference, however I recommend ticking in the boxes next to Nicknames, Games Played, and FPS.
Then click "Okay".

8. Type /restart into the chat box, hit enter, then go to the tab that says "Options" from the popup. In Nickname, type in your prefered alias (Preferably your Steam name), and in Tagline type in your area & prefered player skill (something akin to: Beginners - USA West Coast).
At Max. Connections, bring this number up to 20+ (I have it set to 50, though it doesn't matter if you don't plan on hosting a server). Leave the Port at 7500.

9. Go back to the "Select Mode" tab, and click "Client". In the Destination IP box, input the server code or the IP address of the server you wish to Join. Click "Okay", and you should be taken to the server.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them!

Oh, I forgot to add how to make it easily accessible:
Click on ADD A GAME in Steam
Click Add a Non-Steam Game
Click Browse in the box that pops up.
Navigate to the Vanguard Princess install folder
Click on MTSP.exe, then Open
Then click "Add Selected Programs".
Find MTSP in your Steam Library, click Properties, change the name to "Vanguard Princess (Multiplayer)", and hit close.

Though it looks that way, it's honestly not. It takes less than ten minutes to setup entirely, if you don't screw anything up.

All those things just for showing all in Steam like you are playing VP but playing multiplayer? What stops you from just binding 1.08 Japanese version exe with MTSP to Steam?

I already said it's really not as long or as difficult as it looks, it's just a long post because I tried idiot-proofing it as much as possible, plus you'd have to setup MTSP (arguably the most difficult part) with VP1.08 free anyways. It stops no one from binding the free version of VP + MTSP to Steam. But, it's convient; this keeps everything in the Steam folder, it requires very little extra disc space, it keeps the game in English, and it ensures the game will run on most systems (the Japanese version wont even run on my computer due to the katakana in the file names).

I'll be hosting a server today, Server key should remain the same: 1485301575
If you have difficulties connecting via the server key, send me a friend invite and I'll give you the IP address directly (I would rather avoid posting it online).

I'm stuck on step 6. When I select the file in MTSP, and hit okay. It says MTSP has encountered an error and cannot continue.
I have no idea what could be causing this

Ahhhh, there's some misinformation in my explaination. It's fine, you actually did nothing wrong. Just click in the Server blip instead, and continue on.

Edit; fixed, thanks for pointing that out!
