(5-2) My Unique Thread about a Very Specific Situation
I've got this[hostr.co] screenshot, and I have a few questions about both situations.
1. Because there were five in this column I (incorrectly, in hindsight) thought the center three would have to be filled, but that brought me to situation 2.
2. Since I know this one is true, and the three have to be separated, how come the tile counter-clockwise from the one I filled is not empty?

"-x-" means they're not all connected. So some of them may be connected, as long as there is at least one empty in between somewhere.
And if that tile was empty, under the same assumption, there would have to be another empty tile, but there is no room for 2 empty tiles...

Doesn't just a plain number mean that they're not connected? Or is the distinction there that they're not necessarily connected?

Plain number is just a number. Gives no information about connectivity.
