Would please list all the mods that you are using?

Here's what you can try. Make first a [BACKUP !!] of your ....\Documents\My Games\XCOM2\XComGame\Config folder. Then delete the folder. When you start the game again, the files should be automatically be restored. Hopefully there is only something wrong with the config files, otherwise I don't have much hope. And again, a list of your mods would be very helpfull!

Here's what I've tried so far: 1. Disabling antivirus. 2. Unsubscribing from all the mods for X-Com 2. 3. Deleting the config folder (as was recommended) for both X-com 2 and X-com WOTC. 4. Checked game files in steam 5. reinstalling the game. 6. Plugged off the gamepad (had issues with it in X-com 1). None of this actions and all of them combined lead to any positive result, the game still freezes after I scan the area and the second chosen appears (tried different areas).

I've tried to find other posts about this specific issue on Steam and Reddit and I cannot. Someone else mentioned that the culprits could either be the Stop Wasting My Time mod of the Instant Avengers Menus mod. I don't see any reports of such behavior on either mod's page.

I honestly have no clue what is causing this behavior. The only thing I can recommend at this point is to make a backup of your save game and try to remove the relevant mod code from your save files is try the following steps:

1. Unsubscribe from all mods.
2. Delete config folder
3. Start the game one and reach the main menu (to regen clean config files).
4. Install this mod:

5. Run the game again once and unbind all previous mods from your save.

I hope that it fixes your issue. It's long shot but it might work. It may also completely break your save, so please make a backup first.

Stop Wasting My Time and Instant Avengers Menus can cause a lot of trouble (lags, visual bugs, etc). I used 325 Mods (without those two) on my last Grim Horizon campaign, with zero problems. I tested these two mods several times and i have to say: Not worth the trouble, but it's only my opinion.
I'm pretty sure The Unbind Missing Mods will break the save, but it seems there is no working solution found yet.

I had the exact same problem and couldn't restore my savegame disabling mods or anything. I started a new campaign with just "Stop Waisting My Time" uninstalled and it works. The second Chosen shows up and Central tells me something and the game goes on. SWMT really seems to be the culprit...

Well thank you for testing it and bringing that to light. Unfortunately, the only potential solutionthat I can think of besides unsubscribing and a config flush (and possibly loading an earlier save) still seems to be to try and unbind the mod from the save.

Goes to show that if you aren't playing Ironman, always make backup saves. Even when playing iron man, make a backup copy your save folder at the start of every play session. Or try playing honest man.

These things can happn when modding is supported. I suggest notifying the creator of the Stop Wasting My Time mod and possibly also sending him/her your savefile to debug.

I bought war of the chosen and have SWMT for the orignal so I got the new version for WOTC and I come here to find that my save file is insusable now because I have saves from before the incedint but I don't know how far back to go or even if any are salvageable

Hey, I'm the dev for SWMT. Could someone provide a save file that reproduces this issue (preferably with not too many other mods enabled)?

[Edit] Based on this thread it sounds like the issue is actually from another mod (possibly a conflict - have you tried using the alternate launcher[github.com]?)

In my case I found a workaround. I loaded game save and then tried to contact resistance regions in different order. After several hops I contacted the region where the Chosen (Warlock) appered stoping the game. Suprisingly by this time Chosen ocupied another region.
I played with mods that speed up different game actions like POI scans and contacts with resistance. I think mods were the cause of this issue. Hope this helps.

Ya know, if the game had a few more of the features everyone seems to like, the mods wouldnt be needed and then wouldn't cause problems later....just a thought.

No solution yet, I believe its supposed to focus on the chosen stronghold and they taunt you unnecessarily then the screen will return to the avenger. There must be a missing audio or video file or and update corrupted it. Wish we could roll back updates so I could go back to a time when the game ran amazingly well.

I figured out how to fix this, at least for me. all I did was start and complete the mission introducing the Reapers and Skirmishers. it unlocked the first chosen for me no problem. and the other chosen that were bugged out played normally afterwards. I think the issue was just the game itself not allowing you to reveal any other chosen until you complete that specific mission, and revealing the assassin first. Hope this helps everyone.
