Windows 7 or Higher.
I'm still glad I supported this, as it's awesome, but it's disappointing that it doesn't work on my Windows XP gaming PC or my Mac Book Pro....

I've got an ever growing stack of Steam games that don't support XP...
I guess I have to upgrade to Wndows 8 now after all.

Windows XP is deemed end-of-life by Microsoft, so no more patches are made for it, and bugs/viruses/hackers have a more free reign.

Also note that that there eventually will be a mac version, but not until the windows version is completely up and running.

It's actually a bit odd. I remember the devs talking about choosing between DX9 and DX10, meaning they'd have more freedom with DX10 whereas DX9 is much more widely supported, including by XP machines...

And yet now the program is both DX9 AND has no XP support? Isn't that the worst of both worlds? What gives?

If you're looking to upgrade, go Win 7. Win 8 is still not gamer firendly...

The program runs on DX9 right now but it going to be phased out in the following months. This will allow for less restrictions when creating avatars.

Good to hear, thanks for clarifying that.

It isn't? I'm pretty sure it's just 7 with an awful interface and lots and lots of bugfixes and optimizations.

It does make some kernel and general OS changes that on paper are excellent ideas and would make the OS better, but in practice actually make program compatibility even more of an issue than before. It's up to developers to make sure their software works properly on it, and there is quite a lot of stuff left around that isn't maintained anymore, and all have showstopping bugs when run under Windows 8. 7 is still best for gaming until I'd assume Windows 9 comes out. Then maybe MS will fix some of it.

Yeah, that's true.

It's pretty amazing that you can break things by fixing long-standing bugs since programs come to rely on these same bugs to function.

I believe that was also the problem for XP programs that wouldn't run on Vista/7 (and many still don't), and even for 98 to XP.
