Was sincerely hoping to read better news nearly a year after looking throught the threads the first time. I'm not surprised though :P I'll just check back 2016.
FaceRig Mobile (iOS and Android) will be launched soon, after that Mac will probably be the next platform.
But you guys need to keep in mind that we are still a small start-up with a handful of colleagues.
If it were up to us, we would release FaceRig on all platforms, but until we grow a bit more, we have to prioritize our resources.
Patience is the key (:
A PS 3 Eye that is insane to get to work on Winhose yet Linux finds, configures, and sets up the device with "NO ADDED DRIVERS OR HACKS". As stated OBS is supported on Arch Linux there is more. KdenLive, the video editing software that is growing to points of making Sony Veges obsolete. Blender. Libraoffice. Just about every other Adobe product replaced. Want some upstart to come along and replace your product in Linux or do you want to be the ones who rake in?
I use Windows 10 as a glorified "Game Emulation Layer" with KVM (still have to go through a headache of drivers and the insecurities of Win 10 Malware edition to get Face Rig running on Winblows 10) and can shut it off when I am done playing a game that dose not have native support. Windows is dying among the production community and frankly should be with all except the "Bubba Bum`brain" who has the intellect of a turnip.
I believe you are shooting yourselves in the face by overlooking the power of Linux especially Arch.
I made my points and told you I would shove cash down your throats for a Linux Native. I am sure there are others out there who would too. Not going to touch this till I see a Linux version or see a better product support Linux.
P.S The team who supports Linux and dose it better gets my business. WINE (Whine is not evolving) is not an option.
If someone is going to port Facerig they will need the code. I do not see that happening. If it going to be my time, well may as well hook up with Blender's team and release an open source project. That pie would look fine in your faces.
Oh by the way, funny, ARK was developed by Wild Card (indie) and they cared enough to port to Linux. Discord is not big money either compared to a number of larger companies and I am running Discord right now on Arch in native. If I am not mistaken you got a beta release on Android. Android is very close to Linus's Linux API. Do not hand that trash that you are passing off as gold to me.
What? Your code is so tightly coupled you make one change you break features. That yours fault. Not using DI, your fault. Not planning ahead for adoption. Your fault. Promising support years ago and not coming through. Your fault again. Using closed source Microsoft libs, your fault. Learn to write code smart enough to know what platform it on. Python can access a web cam in 25 lines, what are you using that knock off of Java's syntax, C#? Relying on Microsoft was a dumb move, fast gains, slavery was the price. You should never promise things you cannot back up scrub.
I am done watching for a Linux port. Your company is like "White Man" full lies and broken promises.
We do understand where the frustration comes from, since we've also been there. We are and have always been a small indie team and we have to be very mindful of our resources (revenue, vs monthly costs) in order to be able to keep people employed that work on developing FaceRig.
Yes, our end goal is to make FaceRig become the ultimate open standard for avatar-based interaction, and to support that standard in any way we can. That will mean having FaceRig ported on as many platforms as possible. However this requires smart decisions, time and most importantly, patience.
SDK means software development kit.
This means that we do not have to share our code, we just wrap it in a nice pack and provide it to other companies that want to use our technology in their apps. This will obviously have the possibility to bring FaceRig on many other platforms, on which a small indie company as ourselves, would have to work for years to port the software on all of them.
We actually think competition is actually healthy and we welcome other endeavors in this space (:
