Head tracking for flight sims?
This program has impressive headtracking. Better than in any of the free facetracking thingies for flight sims that I've tried. I think the flight sim crowd would love being able to get some virtual joystick or mouse movements out of the tracker data. TrackIR data would be even better, but I think NaturalPoint would take a dim view of someone osing their proprietary interface.

To keep FaceRig at a low price it is restricted in what it can be used for, for example the Classic and Pro versions can not output tracking data, only finished products.
FaceRig Studio[facerig.com] however does allow the outputting of tracking data, but does have a much higher (but still one time only) cost.
Finally, you could also take a look at https://ulsee.com/en/ which is the producer of the face-tracking SDK itself that FaceRig uses (with some tweaks of course, but mostly their tracker).

Thanks for info. I personally have no need for it because I went for DIY infrared LED solution. Just pointing out that there might be some interest for such thing at least until the VR really becomes the mainstream. To be honest if would probably be hard to sell. It's a niche market and TrackIR has become the standard.

Also there's the legal/licensing aspect. As you know the face tracking technology used in FaceRig is externally licensed, and the condition in which is licensed are pretty specific to be able to drive the price down, otherwise we wouldn't be able to offer the program at a low price. Normally these kind of face tracking libraries are being licensed for the cost of many thousands of dollars each year.
The use case where you use the tracking info to control a computer or to control a game, is different than animating an avatar .
We could try and do that that with other face tracking SDK's, such as the one from Intel Realsense, that is available for free, but you will need the RealSense special camera.

Yes, I think the major selling point of such software would be accessibility, working with almost any webcam people might have. Of the free headtracking programs I think at least opentrack already has RealSense support, though I have no idea how well that works. I use opentrack for my three point LED model, but I don't have the camera to test RealSense.

I imagine it would require negotiating a new deal to sell a sim facetracker as a separate product and trying to keep a price low enough to still sell. Sim gamers are willing to spend money on this, but there is competition. TrackIR - $150, TrackIR alternatives about a third of that, and FaceTrackNoIR that also asks money these days, though I don't know how much exactly. Used to be free, but the face tracking was pretty bad.

As an interesting note, my favorite sim/MMO game Star Citizen that always has a huge scope creep is adding face over IP and the side benefit is headtracking just as I thought. In my point of view, it might count as the main benefit.
