2. It would require making a contract with leapmotion, possibly increasing the price.
3. It would take time away from the main product that everyone can use, to a part that only (relatively) few people can / will use.
4. Floating hands by itself are nice, but here they are attached to a whole body + some avatars don't even have hand / arms (lord bürgor for example)
TL:DR version: yes, funny idea, thanks for the link, but probably not (soon)
On top of that, please try to read pinned topics, especially if they say [READ ME]:

2. Contract duh, prince nope!
3. It's wouldnt be a "YOU HAVE TO HAVE THIS" it would be a side option
4. Have you heard of IK? All need to do is track the hands then the arms follow with (no arm tracking needed
Plus I'm asking for the future not do it now!
Because the main issues that are keeping us from calling FaceRig officially 1.0 (and stop calling it a Beta) are at this time no longer primarily related to interpreting the tracking done by the Visage SDK, but rather to the interface/user experience, rendering and broadcasting sub-systems, the programmers that are tasked with tracking and interpreting tracked data (which are different from the programmers tasked with the new interface, rendering and video broadcasting) have actually had time in the last few weeks to resume ground work for arms/hands without concerns that by doing that are delaying the webcam version implementation in any significant way.
This couldn't have been done prior to January 2015 though.
If you remember at some point early in 2014 we were working on a hybrid kinect1+webcam setup that would allow for hand motion, but the public asked us to fully focus on the webcam version first, and only then work on hands, which we did.
So at this point the programmers that are specialized in tracking and interpreting tracking data together with a technical artist are laying the ground work for hands.
We will probably have something to show about this in a few weeks.
On a side note: we have pinged the LEAP folks back when we started FaceRig about collaborating but unfortunately we never heard back from them. Other manufacturers have been a lot more forthcoming on potential collaborations, so while LEAP will most likely be supported, is not going to be the first supported sensor.
TL:DR: Hands are coming, though not for webcam-only. We will have more news about it in a few weeks.
The project had hype but it deflated fast and they even had to flush part of their team.
It's a very specific device, not like a gamepad where tons of people already have it which can be made by various companies.
It would be totally stupid to invest that much on a feature that would be not used by many when a cam tend to show your hands not your face.
