I can't say for your second suggestion, though :3
Been a little while since I got a chance to use FaceRig x.x
There you should be able to select your microphone
If that doesn't work or the microphone doesn't show up, please give you the brand / type of microphone you use, and in what way it is connected to your PC (single 3.5mm jack / red+white(+yellow) jack / usb / etc.)
Great news thanks
My mic does show up in the list but the resolution box is blank after the latest update. I'm using whatever version Steam gave me. Should I opt in to one of the other versions?
I'll mess with my mic a bit more but I don't think Facerig is picking up my headset mic. I have a Razer Carcharias with 3.5 jack but.. I'm using a USB adapter for the mic jack for added power to the mic. This gives me mic boost without having to use Windows mic boost (much less background noise and no overmodulation).
I'll remove the adapter and see if that works.
Before the latest update the lip sync feature was working but my mic was always open. With this version I also take a very long time to launch, it's loading forever it seems.
i74930k, Samsung 840 SSD, GTX 770 and 16GB of 2133 Ram. Facerig loaded in 3 seconds before the update. Now it takes a full minute and if I click the Facerig window it says not responding. If I let it keep trying it finally loads sometimes with missing textures like eyes or props. I'll restart Facerig and it works if I just don't touch it. I'm running Win 8.1 if that helps any.
The resolution drop down list from the devices tab in General Options is disabled if you launch with the original frame grabber (the first launch option). We will make the alternate frame grabber default (sometime in the near future) as it works with a larger set of cameras and is configurable.
As of the longer load time, we've added a prep step for the upcoming Karaoke Mode.
Regarding the missing textures, a similar issue is posted here: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/app/274920/discussions/2/613939294423902403/ with a good fix here: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/app/274920/discussions/3/613939294303642376/ .
Alternatively, use this
I did the above fix and it worked for the textures. I got a small update today and started messing with facerig again.
My mic still wasn't working so I decided to try the Next Version. Next version didn't want to launch right either and when I turned on lip sync it would turn off by itself. In Windows sound options I was getting a message that there was a problem with my devices enhancements, would you like to turn them off?
I then opted out of all betas and uninstalled and reinstalled Facerig. Facerig is working properly now and it's picking up my mic again. Lipsync is working and Facerig launches in 3 seconds now.

Thank you for your help and hard work
My DxDiag is really long, should I email it?
Where do I email it to?
Is there any other info you need from me?
If you don't want much others to see, post it there unlisted, post the link here and then delete that post. (Mods can still see those posts)
When it detects sound, 3 second load. Maybe long load for me means it's trying to detect audio?
Can you try the following:
-Do a fresh install,
-Upon the first run (when we understand it works as it should) go to the settings and select your microphone again ( if you have more audio devices, just toggle the selection off and on your microphone , then save your settings ).
This way you will hopefully avoid the wrong audio settings being autosaved on exit.
And yes long loading times each time may be linked to audio devices.
I reinstalled Facerig and everything seems to be working again. I've turned off the auto save for now.
Thanks for your help
*edit*
I found the cause for no sound detected on my system.
If I run my playback audio at 24bit 48000hz facerig audio works, If I change to 16bit 44100hz it doesn't detect sound. I run many older games at 16bit 44100 for compatability and hadn't changed back. This seems to affect the mic which is always at 16bit 48000.
Reinstalling my audio drivers set my playback audio to the default 24bit 48000hz
Tested working:
16bit 48000hz- 16bit 192000hz
24bit 48000hz- 24bit 192000hz
Tested not working or not supported:
16bit 44100hz
24bit 44100hz
