Linux not a supported platform?
at least that's the message I'm getting.

Currently only Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 are supported (although for some it also works, in a way, on Wine)

There will probably be a Linux version at some point, but that will only happen once the windows version is fully up and running, and then Mac will probably go first.

that's horribly disappointing since I don't have access to a windows machine or a mac :/

As said, you could always try out https://www.winehq.org/ wine.
There probably won't be (direct) webcam support, but you can use puppeteering mode.
Also, if you use a skype call, you can use some sort of capture software, and let that output as a webcam for FaceRig to pick up. As said, not the best way but you can at least toy around with it a bit.

That's unfortunately asking a lot from my 4 and 7 year old son's who I helped kickstart for :/

I'm sorry to hear that, but unfortunatly there is nothing I or HoloTech Studio's can do about that, other then work hard to get all the platforms released as soon as possible (which I'm 110% sure they will).

.

One thing I should point out though, is that on the indiegogo page itself, it was explained too that Linux wouldn't be supported on launch.
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/facerig#faq

What platforms will be supported?
We are starting on Windows PC, then iOS, Android, Mac and depending on our Technology partners also Linux.
We will not launch FaceRig for a new platform if we do not have enough funds and resources to finalize and properly support the previous one (out of respect for our user-base).
Of course we will hold community polls and if it turns out more people want Mac rather than Android for instance, we will switch the order.

Give them time to get the game out of beta. When the game is out of beta im sure most platforms will be supported :)
As quoted above by FurRiffic, it's not just a matter of getting FaceRig out of beta.

One thing I just thought off: that might be a bit more easy for them to understand (you will still have to install the program with wine yourself)
Make a (small) video with your webcam / microphone and either save it as .avi or convert it to that (there are hundreds of off and online tools for that)
bring that file to the windows area.
import that file.

If will now show what you(r children) did as their favorite avatar, and they can even just switch avatars and reply it with them to see which one they like most.

See it as a parroting-mode, it will just work with the webcam, but with a delay.

At the risk of sounding snarky and cold, that's your fault for not reading the indiegogo page. It was advertized that *nix support was likely not going to happen.

Come on, now. Play nice :3
I do agree with "Buyer beware", but it's not really necessary ^^
