[SOLVED] Launcher stopped working
Hi guys,

it's been around 12 days I've not been using FaceRig [nextversion], came back and Launcher suddenly stopped working. What's happening this time? FaceRig can be launched by bypassing launcher, yet launcher is crashing everytime I launch the game normally. I need access to tweaks tho.

Any suggestions? No compatibility mode or administrator mode helps whatsoever. There was some update? I'll try to go back to some previous version, maybe that will help. Are there any logs I can post?

OK the [nextversion] is broken, going back to normal makes the launcher work OK again, can I somehow help?

What error do you receive when you use the nextversion branch? After this version crashed please provide us with the Vp.logs and dxdiag files like in this thread https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/app/274920/discussions/2/34096318703798146/ in order for us to investigate.

There is a new Launcher on 'nextversion' branch, it would greatly help if you could provide us the LauncherLog.txt (<steamInstallDir>\steamapps\common\FaceRig\Bin\). We also need dxdiag info so we can figure out if it's a system configuration issue.

Also, I would suggest verifying application cache when switching to 'nextversion'. (from Steam client, right click on FaceRig, go to Properties, Local Files and hit Verify Integrity of Application Cache).

Sadly guys I can't provide you with actual logs as these logs are not created. Wiping all logs off stable version, upgrading to [nextversion] to allow creation new fresh logs off this one results in nothing. No logs are created, only Coherent_UI.log, which contains few rows.

Launcher starsts as a white window and immediatelly crashes with message "Launcher.exe stoped working". No LauncherLog.txt is created. Sorry.

DxDiag was send to info@facerig.com with link to this thread. I bet it's Windows 10 tho.

If you are feeling up to a bit of investigation work, could you try and see if there are any windows logs conserning the crash?
Either search for logs or for "eventvwr.msc" (without the quotes) and open them, go to the windows logs, application logs, press control+F and search for appcrash.
This should give you the log of the crash.
One or two below this error message should also be another message concerning the crash of FaceRig.
Please copy the entire message here.

I'm not sure if it will reveal the cause, but I did notice with another crash that it showed the culprit DLL, so I'd say it's worth the shot.


Still, this is only something to try in the mean time, if you just want to enjoy facerig, just skip the launcher like you already found out :)

Sure thing, no problem, here it is, I've got it in my language, can't switch to other right now, so I hope it will help like this:

The first says exception code and the second is just the row beneath it. Otherwise it says nothing and each error, everytime it crashes, repeats with this code description.

Hmmm, that wasn't exactly what I meant, I was looking for something like this (also in a different language, but I think you can get the point of it at least):

This would be the two error message I would be looking for, if I where looking for a crash with "The Witness"(awesome game btw :P)

To find it I first searched for "appcrash", found the first message and copied the details (maybe you have to double-click the row and copy the part in the scrollable textbox at the top) and then looked at the row just below there in the list and from there too copied the details.

If searching for appcrash doesn't work, try to FILTER the logfiles on ID 1000 and 1001, this should filter out a bunch of unneeded info.

We've just updated 'nextversion' branch. This time, the LauncherLog.txt should be created and we've made some tweaks.

Could you try it out again and send us the log? :D (don't forget to close steam and re-launch so that it could detect the update).

It still crashes but this time the crash is hidden.

The log helped a lot, we narrowed down the root cause of the crash and also updated the nextversion branch. Try it now and tell us if it's solved.

Same case to me, it was crashing to me showing usual "stopped working" dialogue... as of new update now it just not showing anything at all. I'm not on my computer right now so I can't post log

Could you post the LauncherLog.txt as well? It would greatly help us at understanding what happens and what goes wrong.
