Unsupported Webcams
Greetings,

Some of the reported crashes are related to a subsystem of FaceRig that grabs image frames from the webcam, further feeding the face tracker. This post is intended as an know issue list of unsupported webcams.

We are doing the best we can to shrink this list with every update. Also, this post will update with every new released version.

current version FaceRig 0.74b - build 292

UPDATE: Current version has launch options, first one uses the original frame grabber, the second one uses an alternate in-house frame grabbing solution. If you are having issues with a webcam feed or a crash related to the webcam, we advice using the alternate frame grabber.

Currently not supported by the original frame grabber:
* iWebCamera (supported by alternate)
* Microsoft Kinect for Windows and Xbox360
* Microsoft Kinect 2 for Windows and XboxOne
* ASUS Xtion PRO
* Any Firewire Camera

Not really the place to ask this (or is it?)
But, what webcam would you recommend

Logitech works pretty good.

No, this isn't the place for that, please take a look at this post: Suggested webcams

The Microsoft LifeCam does not seem to work. Haven't been able to find any support articles on it. Have two of them and tried them both - it never shows up when I select it. Just a black screen. Cameras work fine with other software. :-(

Can you locate somewhere on the product a more specific model number or identification elements? We can try and purchase one ourselves, for testing.

You may wanna update that list because, The DeckLink Capture cards do work with Facerig.

On Facerig, The Blackmagic Intensity Pro Capture Card does work, As long as Blackmagic DeckLink WDM Streaming is disabled in the Device Manager, That is a different driver that the Card uses and many capture programs don't use the WDM Drivers.

When loading Facerig, It does see the Capture Card as the Decklink Video Capture.

Here's a screenshot to proof it.

This is a video capture of the Wii U showing in the Webcam Window.

These capture devices are useful for anyone who owns an HD camera with HDMI out, Then could plug the camera's HDMI out to the capture card's HDMI in and use those to capture camera video to the computer, And even use them as webcams.

Actually they do work, I have a Microsoft Lifecam Studio and it works fine on Facerig. The camera does 30fps at 640x360 and 15fps at 1280x720 and 1920x1080

Does Acer Crystal Eye built in webcam of a acer laptop work? I'm having problems in getting facerig to work, this is the exact same problem i have which someone else posted here https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/app/274920/discussions/2/613935404033513587/

@Pengu
The issue posted at the link you mentioned is not caused by an unsupported webcam. Also, we updated on 19th September the "nextversion" branch with an alternative webcam grabber, which we have tested on webcams that did not work previously.
We are already working on this issue.

Oh ok, I have my own logs and errors posted to that link now. https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/app/274920/discussions/2/613935404033513587/

Someone looked at it and mentioned it wasn't the exact same problem as the other guy but there is still no solution for it and I already tried the one work around he mentioned. He said I will have to wait for a Holotech dev to show up.

I know you guys are working to fix the bugs but I just wanted to be sure my bug was noticed too. I'm not trying to be rude or anything just nervous about my problem not getting fixed that's all. I wish you guys the best of luck.

is there an ETA for allowing / supporting use of the Kinect V2 with windows adapter?
Carmen the Human Minion  [developer] 16 Sep, 2016 @ 1:59am
Kinect 2 will come to FaceRig real soon, we've been prototyping with it for some time now, although there is a distinction between using Kinect 2 for the body tracking (through SDK) and using the Kinect 2 as a regular webcam.

The first part will be out soon, we'll be adding upper body tracking (hands and torso orientation).

The second part depends on Microsoft to provide appropriate drivers so that webcam software would have to possibility to access the RGB stream from the Kinect. Skype (a Microsoft product) for example does not provide the possibility to use Kinect 2 as a webcam.

On a side note, there are some resources on the internet (at least for the Kinect v1) that provide drivers that make the Kinect device be used as a webcam.

Ah so it's really difficult becuase lack of micrsoft giving 3rd party developers signed drivers to use all aspects of the kinect v2 (web cam). Figures. Good luck!!!
