New patch broke it
Since the new patch, FaceRig never and I mean never closes properly. First off, an error message pops in after a few minutes and if I click it, the program crashes but it keeps running in the background and I have to shut down the processes for my webcam in order to close it properly and be able to relaunch it. Thankfully I can ignore the error message and the program keeps running perfectly fine so that's what I do when I'm using it but still, it's pretty annoying that I have to manually end my webcam everytime.

I use Windows 8.1 64bits and Lifecam Studio. I wrote the error message to memory dump, where do I find it so I can paste it here?

Hello there,

A new patch has just been released, could you check if the problem still exists?

I can see that the eyebrows got improved but the program still never closes properly. This time though it says where the crash dumps are so boom: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B76xzAQwBwnHb2FwdjV0bC1CdUU/edit

You need to make that file public for us to see, now we have to request access, which I at least personally won't do.

Ah sorry, I've never used Google Docs before. Is https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B76xzAQwBwnHb2FwdjV0bC1CdUU/edit?usp=sharing public?
FurRiffic 3 Sep, 2014 @ 7:02am
No, still not public
To make it public:
Go to your file list (https://drive.google.com)
Select the file
Select "share"
On the top row of "who has access" click "change..."
Select "anyone with link"
Click Save, done.

Also, please next to the actual crash dump, please find the VP.log (one folder above where you find crash dump in <steam folder>/steamapps/common/facerig/vp.log) and make that available too. I suggest using pastebin for that btw, no need to specifically select sharing, just paste and go.

Alright, done. http://pastebin.com/EVxqA7hK

Sorry for the delay!
FurRiffic 3 Sep, 2014 @ 1:56pm
No worries, I was busy myself too, today, so I also didn't see your answer before.
Both the pastebin and the drive link do work though :)

I have a few more things:
Could you, while using the program, keep the taskmanager open on the performance page and see if something happens at the moment of the "crash" (a sudden spike/drop or it getting to 100%?)
Could you try disabling the steam-overlay in the steam-properties for facerig? (For both the crashing and it not shutting down correctly)
If the program crashes again, could you also copy the message it shows you? (In the window with the stop/break buttons)
M'igo Kazan 3 Sep, 2014 @ 5:16pm
Sure thing, I'll give it an intensive run once my friends are done doing homework.
M'igo Kazan 3 Sep, 2014 @ 7:15pm
It still crashed (http://pastebin.com/r6pj84vN) when I closed it and the CPU usage raised by 5% for a sec when it happened, nothing major. This time though, it didn't keep running in the background as usual. Maybe disabling Steam overlay fixed that? I'll test it further tomorrow if possible.
FurRiffic 3 Sep, 2014 @ 9:10pm
Also, after a crash (without steam overlay on) could you check the event viewer under Windows_Logs\Application and copy the crash files on FaceRig?
These should at least be one "Error" Crash, but also check the log files before and after it.
M'igo Kazan 7 Sep, 2014 @ 5:15pm
Sorry for the delay, work kept me really busy. Since I started using the nextbranch version, I can't get it to crash anymore but it still won't close properly and nothing shows up in the event viewer because it doesn't crash. Tried three times in as many days and nope, it won't crash.
M'igo Kazan 10 Sep, 2014 @ 8:39am
Alright, it crashed again so here's the things.

This should probably be moved to the nextversion branch section, though.

It's been two months and this is one of the oldest threads in here, I was wondering if there's been any progress made to fix the issue?

Hello,

To further investigate your problem we'll need a bit more information. I'll have to ask you for dxdiag output info. Does the crash occur while toying around with FaceRig or when exiting?

Before you provide us with that info, please make sure you have updated your sound card drivers (both integrated and dedicated if any) and that the drivers are for the OS you are running on.
