Webcam requirements?
480p? 720p?

Or is it just anything that can run this effectively?: http://www.visagetechnologies.com/HTML5/Samples/FaceTracker/sampleTracker.html

480p is the recommended minimum, but you CAN get away with lower.

Frame rate, simply the higher the better. 30fps would be acceptable, but 60 is definitely what you want to aim for.

How likely is it that a laptop's built-in webcam will be sufficient?

1. depends on your laptop
2. it might. I for example use my own webcam and it works relatively well, even though the laptop is 4 years old and wasn't even a high-end laptop back then. As long as the image is sharp and not stuttering, it should work

Pretty much what FurRiffic said.

My laptop on the other hand has a trash camera. But that said, my laptop has been refitted with a slightly better GPU and a better CPU than it had when it first came out, so even if my CPU is newer than FurRiffic's laptop, my camera is probably as old or older than his xD

Mine is like... 240p @15fps or slower.

something 720p/720p HD will do the trick imlying your computer can run the program smoothly, you CAN go lower but 720p or higher is the best for proformance overall with lipsync and detection

My guess is that resolution isn't as important as the "correct" image, meaning an image where your facial features are easily recognizable. Good lighting, simple background, good focus, little motion blur or image grain, stuff like that.

That's why they show a girl with painted lips in demo videos.
