That information is somewhat correct, but inexact. Allow me to clarify.
The Pro upgrade is needed if you want to post the FaceRig videos on web channels or pages that are commercial in nature, for the purpose of ad based (or donation based, or similar) monetization.
We define as "commercial in nature" any avenue ( channel, webpage) that makes you more than 500 USD per month on average. That is an attribute of the channel or page and that can be evaluated independently of getting or using a FaceRig license on it.
So for example, if you have a regular, partnered YouTube channel that makes you less than 500 USD per moth you can use Classic to post videos that can be monetized online on that channel, because that channel we do not consider to be actually commercial ( the revenue threshold on it is too low). If that channel makes you more than 500 USD, then we consider that channel commercial , so you will need to upgrade to Pro to post facerig content there.
By that rule, for your case a crowdfunding video : if you get more than 500 USD per moth from your crowdfunding campaign that features facerig videos, then yes you need the Pro upgrade.
As an interesting side effect of the fact that for kickstarters you only get the money at the end : if the kickstarter is not successful and you get zero money, you do not need the Pro, so you could use Classic, run the campaign, allow it to end and only upgrade to Pro after the campaign is over and you see some money ( and thus makes you more than 500 USD for you per month. if not, you don't actually need to upgrade) and that would be perfectly okay.
If you hold your crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo instead of Kickstarter, with flexible funding (where you get the money immediately even if you do not meet your total goal), you would need to upgrade to the Pro after the total contributions to the campaign surpasses the commercial threshold.
For direct selling of FaceRig content, or for charging admission tickets to see Facerig content , or for posting content that exclusive to subscription-based video services ( such as the new YouTube Red) you will either need the Facerig Studio ( which is not released yet) , or you will need to reach out to us and get a custom FaceRig license.
(Pro is just for content that the users can experience for free, and that is monetized indirectly via ads , donations or similar )
Addition:
Now if your campaign is awesome but, small, like it had a goal of let's say $4000 dollars not $50 000, and $80 from that $4000 going to FaceRig Pro actually messes a bit with your budget that you need for delivering stuff to your backers, you can simply reach out to us beforehand and ask us for permission to use Classic on that particular campaign :). We love to help indies and we will discuss this with out tech partners and we may obtain for you a special permission, so don't be afraid to reach out directly and ask us :)
Thank you for the fast and detailed response.

We're probably still a good year away from it. And I wasn't even considering this program until Live 2d was added recently.
But I understand. When the date gets closer I'll certainly be looking to contact you guys for more info about the cicumstances when we know them.
