I was messing around with Maya creating a test piece of headgear to try out in facerig. If anyone else is doing something similar, could you help me figure out what folder the DAE files are suppose to go in? I was looking in the documentation and couldn't figure out where it wants me to put it before executing the .BAT file.

I might be missreading things, or something like that, but if anyone knows post here.

Thanks. XP

I have been having a look at this aswell, first of all make sure you have installed facerig in a dir with no spaces as the manual says. I did this and it still didn't work but after some detective work I found that for some reason the environment variable "FR_CUSTOMDATA_PATH" had a space at the end and was causing it to error:
[ED_SCRIPT] Lua error: 'cannot open C:\FaceRig\Mod\VP\PC_CustomData\ extraInfo/commonFunctions.lua: No such file or directory

To fix this, click start then type env and open "Edit environment variables for your account" then select FR_CUSTOMDATA_PATH and click edit, remove the space at the end of the value box and hit ok.
After that running the .bat opens a folder selection dialogue.

This was my problem at least, may be different for you

Thank you very much. I believe that was the issue!

New issue. the object won't attach.

It would be nice if there was some documentation just explaining how to import static props... Could it be because i haven't done any form of texturing? I didn't want to mess around with doing lots of detail into a model when i just want to test it out and see if it appears in the program... XP You know since UVing an object then creating nice textures is a bit of a pain, when all you want to do is test.

It is the same procedure with the props as it is with the avatars, just with less details regarding animations... , the trick is right now in this first iteration that you *must* declare a prop for a certain avatar, it cannot be generic (this will of course be corrected later on) . I will point this thread to the artist writing the documentation. Unfortunately he has to be out of Office until Tuesday so you are stuck with me, Florin, for support until then, but he is pretty hyped about allowing the community to create stuff, so when he comes back he will get back at writing the needed docs and correcting the needed scripts with great enthusiasm :)

I cannot tell you how much I love that someone took a look at the custom creation pack, even though it is put together rather hastily atm. :D

Maybe we should make a new section in these forums....

Well at the moment i went through the tutorial about it, and named the headgear... thing i made to - Fluffo_prop_HeadgearGeometry.dae

The folder i have the DAE in is called test. I used the tool to put it in facerig, it appears in the prop section in the program, but when i click attach, it does nothing and the tick box stays empty... I'm possibly not reading stuff right, but it goes mainly into details about animation, character rigging and so forth. So i'm skipping over those parts because i'm not looking to impliment a character any time soon. Really it's just a static, non textured object. XP

Could it be somethig to do with the way i'm exporting it in maya? I know there are export options, but do i need to do something with them for the program?

Fluffo's name as far as data is concerned is in fact Avatar01 (Fluffo is the Friendly name). but the script should have treated this... most likely some script debugging is needed :) can you look in PC_customdata and see how the folders and models are named there ?

Unless it says it elsewhere no. What i read was " For instance if the prop is meant to work with avatar Fluffo and the prop is named “vikingHelmet”, the geometry file should be named “Fluffo_prop_vikingHelmetGeometry”."

So i took the "vikingHelmet" part out and put my own name in.

Yes the script should have taken care of the translation.. but most likely there is a bug.

I'm not sure. Because it does appear in the dropdown box as i said, It will only appear on Fluffo, but when i click attach, the tick box refuses to tick and nothing happens XP So i don't know.

I've never really made props for anything other then myself before, so i guess i could be doing something wrong? XP

Well if you can send us the link to your input data, and we will try and sort it out :) or zip it up and mail it to info[at]facerig[dot]com if it is not overly large

Yeah that's fine. It's understandable :3

Someone from our programming team may be here a bit later later to ask you some questions about the folders, the output data, the program log when trying to load the prop and whatnot so we can find the cause why it is not showing :)
