Custom Characters
Before I ask about anything, I just want to say thanks to holotech for really good software (eventhough I know some are having troubles)
Now. I know facerig will allow you to import a custom created character into facerig (along with its own textures, etc) So I have a few questions regarding this.
Firstly, is this feature implemented yet? If not when will it be and if it is, how do you import?
Then I understand that certain face weights and probably a facial skeleton rig within blender/maya/max would be needed. Is there a guide for such a skeletal face rig or is there going to be one?

Yes, the feature is implemented, but it is not yet documented.
There will be a tutorial for importing, first on props since they have less restrictions, then later on avatars.

There will also be a tutorial on making rigs, but that will be probably not be in the first few weeks.

OK cool thanks. Is there a way I can get or export a character with its skeleton to judge how to assemble/create a rig in 3d for export to facerig?

Hopefully, industry standard models such as Victoria 4 and Michael 4 will be able to be imported easily.

I hope so. I have an Alien Modified Version of the Victoria Model and i´d love to use it here. :-)

I want to create my own characters (my own avatars) and I have the modeling skills for it. It's just that rigging will require more information. I mean if we are to import, are we using the bones to animate the parts of the face (for instance, a chin bone that goes up or down to lift or lower the chin), or if it will need to be animated (and thereby when exported as fbx or collada have these animations "play" as the different parts are being tracked) or if blendshapes are needed. Then the names of the bones or animations or blendshapes (whichever necessary) to be used for each.

Just knowing what sort of animation/constraint should be used and how these things need to be named will already help leaps and bounds.

There is also this : https://facerig.com/index.php/forum/posts/f5/t512/official-technical-info-on-avatars but the facerig.com website is having some trouble right now so it may take a few tries and some waiting before the page actually loads.

Any explaination on adding custom color points or skin/fur markings? I would like to give Danny a goatee of sorts that can be colored differently from his secondary markings (chin/muzzle, around eyes, etc)

This is a lot more along the lines of what I was looking for. Thank you
I am so getting this at some point. The fact that I may some day be able to have my own avatar is awwwesome.

Blender3D or nothing. Also can't wait to have a crack at this when the documentation comes out.

Any chance on Maya Support? Im excellent with that program.
ZuneDai 29 Aug, 2014 @ 5:53am
@KingFriday You could always just export as an FBX in maya (since that is one of the import files they said the import will support) Or you could export it to Max and export it from max to FBX or another suitable format. I am not sure about OBJ formats though, but I do recall the FBX having an animation option with the export

Lots of file formats are cross-compatiable once they can be opened in a common exporter, I've had a few years of experience in Maya and it was fully featured in that area. I wonder how the fur and hair is solved, I hope its not assignable only by specefic programs.

This is a bumped very old (launch day) thread :D. Creating and importing custom characters has been possible for a while. Moving this to the Custom Creation Section.

Can I use models from MMD or Gmod?
