Info on the Super Turbo Championship Edition

What is it?

Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition is an extended version of Guacamelee! Gold Edition. It was initially designed for release on consoles on which the original Guacamelee! wasn’t available. Due to demand for STCE on Steam, it ultimately launched there too.

What's new in STCE versus the original Guacamelee?
  • New Game Areas: Players will ride boats through the Canal of Flowers to save a besieged fishing town, and avoid lava as they climb through the fiery Volcano
  • New Boss: Face off against The Trio of Death, a three-headed skeleton that lives in the Volcano, helping the evil Carlos Calaca build his skeleton armies
  • New Abilities: Maximize destruction with the powerful new INTENSO combat mode. Plus: Chicken Bombs and Independent Dimension Swapping
  • New Enemies: Lethal new elite-class enemies that want to chokeslam luchadores to sleep
  • Support for multiple save slots
  • Dual currency system that supports permanent item unlocks
  • New enhancements to co-op mode (now up to 4 players!)

Do my Gold Edition achievements/savegame/etc. carry over?

Save files from Gold are very incompatible with STCE due to all the changes that have been made across the game, so bringing them over is impossible. STCE has its own set of achievements and a whole new batch of trading cards, backgrounds and emoticons.

I bought Guacamelee! Gold on Steam. Is there an upgrade package?

When Guacamelee! STCE first launched on Steam, Gold Edition owners were offered an upgrade discount. This discount remained available for a number of months post-launch, but ultimately had to be discontinued, as it was not possible to keep it active while also putting the STCE version of the game on sale in Steam promotions.

STCE is put on sale fairly frequently at this point, often at a significant discount.

I don’t own either version of Guacamelee! yet. Which one should I get?

Guac STCE is not available on Mac or Linux at this time, so if you’re playing on one of those systems Guac Gold is your best bet. For PC users we feel both versions are good, but we’d lean toward recommending STCE as it contains more content and some extra features (as outlined above).

For new users unsure of which edition they’d prefer to play, and/or anyone who’d like to pick up the soundtrack along with the game: The Guacamelee! Complete package contains both Guac Gold and Guac STCE, plus the OST.

Troubleshooting

I start the game for the first time, all I see is a black screen.

Please try the following:
1. Put this file[www.drinkboxstudios.com] into your Documents/GuacameleeSTCE folder
2. Install Microsoft DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010)[www.microsoft.com]
3. Install Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86)[www.microsoft.com]
4. Install the latest drivers for your graphics card.
Note: Your graphics card needs 512MB of video ram, and Shader Model 3.0

(Using keyboard) Some combos are inconsistent, others I can't do whatsoever.

You need to choose new keys. Your keyboard has problems with multiple keys being held down at the same time. This problem is called Keyboard Ghosting[www.microsoft.com], and it's a limitation of keyboard hardware.

Test the keys you're using here[www.microsoft.com]. Press "Click To Use" and try holding 2 movement keys while pressing attack and jump. i.e. Using Preset1 - that's left arrow, up arrow, A and S. All the keys should highlight. If not, you need to change your keys (Options > Remap Keyboard) until you find a combination your keyboard allows to be held together.
Note: Controllers have no ghosting issue.

(Using keyboard) Keys displayed don't match the keys I chose.

Try changing keys (Options > Remap Keyboard). You could also try changing your keyboard input language to "English (UNITED STATES)" (Control Panel > Change Input Methods > Add a language...), although depending on your keyboard that might cause other issues.

What are the game specs?
OS: Windows 7, 8, XP, 2000 and Vista
Processor: 2 Ghz+
Memory: 512 MB RAM
Graphics: Shader Model 3.0, 512 MB VRAM
DirectX: Version 9.0c
Hard Drive: 800 MB available space
Additional Notes: Supports Xbox 360 Controller and other XInput-compatible controllers

Controllers / Gamepads

IMPORTANT: STCE requires you to be able to press down on your joysticks in order to activate the INTENSO power
If you cannot press down on your controller / gamepad sticks, you may want to try to activate INTENSO using the assigned keyboard key.

My controller doesn't work properly.
If it's an XBOX or XInput-compatible controller, it should just work.

How do I get my Playstation 3 / PS3 controller to work?

Guacamelee! fully supports the PS3 controller. However, you need to use MotionInJoy[www.motioninjoy.com] to get Windows to see the PS3 controller first. It's free and popular. If it works for you, consider donating. This is 3rd party software, so use at your own risk.

How do I get my Logitech controllers to work?

Some Logitech controllers have a switch[www.logitech.com] that makes the controller XInput compatible. Otherwise, read the answer to the next question.

My controller still doesn't work. Any ideas?

1. Use X360ce[code.google.com] to convert your DirectInput controller into XInput. While we haven't tested this, my understanding is you need to copy files to your Steam Guacamelee folder found here "C:\Program Files(x86\Steam\steamapps\common\DrinkBox_Game4". If you have any success with this (as many people have with other games), we would truly appreciate you posting your steps in this dicussion forum.

2. Use joy2key[www.electracode.com] to map your controller joystick & buttons to keyboard keys.
This is surprisingly easy to do. You may need to disable the controllers so you don't get double input (Options > Assign Controllers: Place all controllers in the middle). If you have an N64 controller, this is likely your solution.

3. If your gamepad isn't working with X360ce, just rename xinput1_3.dll into xinput9_1_0.dll . That should help.

Does Guacamelee! work with my SNES gamepad?

In theory you could use the above techniques to get an SNES gamepad to work.
The problem is you won't have enough buttons to play the game.
Or maybe you're just that good.

Multiplayer

Is online multiplayer supported?

Unfortunately no. We simply did not have time to add that feature. We concentrated on adding as many Steam features as possible, integrating downloadable content, adding the ability to edit costumes, and ensuring full keyboard support (remappable, changes appear in game).

How many players are supported?

4-Player local Co-operative play for the entire story. Additionally, players can drop in and out whenever they would like.

Are 4 controllers required for 4 players?

No! Guacamelee fully supports 1 player on keyboard, and the others on controllers. Simply pause the game, go to "Options > Assign Controllers."

Can 2 players use 1 keyboard?

2 players using 1 keyboard is NOT supported. The advanced move list requires a large amount of keys, making 2 players at 1 keyboard infeasible. Also, keyboard ghosting[www.microsoft.com] becomes an even larger issue, rendering the game unplayable.

Are multiple keyboards supported (laptop keyboard + external keyboard)?

Not at this time.

Save File Backup

How do I back up a save file?
We don't recommend doing this, due to the possibility it will break the game after a patch, but you can locate and copy the save file.

1. Look in C:\Program Files\Steam\userdata\SteamID\AppID\remote

2. The appID for Guacamelee STCE is 275390. You're going to have to figure out your own SteamID number. You should find it in the userdata folder.

3. Should be a file named "save.dat" Copy it and save it to back it up.
