"The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting a different outcome."
So no, gaming is also not a fair environment, it's same s**t like real life in regards of fairness, just discrepancies are orbiting around other traits.
More fair than real life, at least things like looks, height, etc. don't matter upon success & the things you listed here either A) Are rare cases or B) can be worked upon. I was talking about the games themselves though, not things like outside factors to be honest anyways, so this is all moot anyways. My brother plays Apex on Xbox just fine, I should be able to play this game and others like it just fine too, apex is surely way more demanding than 20+ year old game haha.

Pill
Side note: If you play White Lightning, DO NOT LEAVE THE GAME ONCE THE MATCH BEGINS. There is an automated system that will ban you after 3 mid-match leaves. Also its generally frowned upon to quit mid-match.
Basically it's like hitting your head to a wall and enjoying it. Go ahead if you're a masochist.
Bought this game in a whim... ~Ten years ago had a different steam account and was playing this game now and then, but to be honest it felt like masochism already back then.
Nothing unlike some lan sessions with my real friends... i.e. casuals and not people who are Professional Autists who do nothing but play 15,000 hours same game.
Internet and streamer culture has really ruined online gaming as a whole. I find playing Q3A against bots ten times more fun than facing random sweats in some random internet lobby.
How peculiar.
