Clearing the Smoke: A project to remove cigars and smoke from 100% OJ
A few of the updates to OJ this year have added smoking into the game. First, version 1.27 added Tequila, who smokes a cigar in his victory pose. Then, version 1.30 (and the patches since) added Arthur, with cigarettes across multiple poses, card art, and even the Santa Scramble event.

Several players in the OJ community (including myself) have been really upset about the increasing presence of smoking in this formerly smoke-free game. So, I recently took up the task of editing the in-game textures, starting with Arthur. It took several days of work, but I finally created a mod to replace the default textures with edited ones (I opted to remove Arthur's cigarettes altogether, filling in the details).

You can find the current version of my mod on GameBanana: https://gamebanana.com/skins/167517
It is completely VAC-safe and can be used in online games regardless of whether other players have it. I have plans to update this mod with Tequila's victory pose and any future occurrences of smoking.

it ain't no real 4kids patch without removing all the swears and censoring other random things and changing everyone's name to something completely different
needs a dub too

I'm not sure why this is a thing, I mean I somewhat get the idea but its a little bit much. Going into the games art assets and editing them just to sent a message of "no smoking"

By the way; Yes, smoking is bad, I can't agrue that, But to a point where you're changing the original assets? No, I think thats a little much.

(P.S I want this to be a an ACTAULLY discussion and not a yelling contest)

I don't endorse smoking in any way, but fictional characters smoking doesn't bother me. However I can appreciate other people having different sensibilities about that, and I'm sure this is a welcome addition to them.

no lollipop edit :/

if you gonna edit the art, least ask the artist permission about it, since u r messing with their art.

it's a personal mod so i don't see the problem with editing art

which they're giving out?
if someone gonna edit another person art, they should least get permission or tell them about it, to see if they're fine with.

the thing is like mods in general are normally like "ain't nobody care"
if hono has a problem with something someone made he can probably come in and "don't do that"

it's not like they're charging money or pretending to be hono or anything

i see this as like any other visual mod in any other game
we don't go up to nintendo and ask every time if it's alright to make luigi look different

I wasn't aware that this game could be modded.
Good effort and I hope it will inspire others to make mods

Eh, devs seem fine with it, besides, people mod games all the time without devs' consent, which is like, no problem for singleplayer games, and typically no problem for multiplayer games either if the modded content is hosted and played seperately and doesn't offer any unfair advantadges and whatnot. (And visual changes to graphics in this case would be perfectly fine too. All you do is roll the dice and pray, after all.)

Why, it's the glory of PC gaming! Don't like it? Mod it! The only platform that lets you have any creative power over the products being sold on it. It makes for marvellous creations sometimes with how endlessly creative a community can be. Graphics changes/improvements, maps, better AI, anything you can think of, really!

Can't say smoking really offends me either, though i would prefer that people put their smoke away in RL, of course. That stuff is just nasty to inhale. Visually, i don't care though. If anything, it's kinda humerous, seeing Tequila all properly dressed as "Santa", just smokin' a huge cuban sigar thing, it's just such a humerously wrong image of "Santa", heh.

Well, i'm sure some people will find it a good edit in their game in any case. But as long as i'm not smelling it i hardly care. There even was some guy who transformed all the characters into something else from some other fandom, so it wouldn't be the first time there was an graphics mod for OJ.

Why does it matter if some characters smoke?
winter wave 26 Dec, 2018 @ 10:56am
some people are sensitive to that kind of thing
that's just how it is
