!) Exit Steam and make sure your game is not running.
2) Restart your computer
3) Start Steam and make sure it has fully updated itself and your games
4) make sure your on the Default version of the game in your Steam settings and don't have another version or mod selected
5) do a file verification in Steam of your GC game files
6) Set game to use DirectX in Steam
7) restart system again and do another file verification
If game doesn't run after that then yeah you need Eric's help lol.
Go to the main folder of the game, and try running GearCity.exe directly. Instructions on how to do that are here: http://wiki.gearcity.info/doku.php?id=troubleshooting:steam_installfolder
Let me know what it says if anything.
Do you get any sort of window? If so, please email me the log files. How to do that is located here: http://wiki.gearcity.info/doku.php?id=troubleshooting:steam_installfolder#sending_the_log_file
You'll want to be playing the 64-bit in DirectX as it's significantly faster than the OpenGL Renderer.
32-bit build is not a beta. Nor is the 64-bit. They're the same game, just different engine updates.
Approximately 40 people are playing the 64-bit release right this second. So the issue isn't the release, most likely you have a missing system lib, like OpenAL. Or AV software is blocking it from running. Let me know the above, and I'll help you troubleshoot it. And if it does turn out to be an issue with the game, we'll address it.
Eric: It does just not starting. I get the Window where i have the 3 Options. (Starting game, Settings and something mod). When i choose Starting game in library it says its starting and nothing happens and after 2 seconds the text behind gearcity in library is gone too.
So the only window i get is the one before starting the game at all.
It doesnt start with DirectX and opengl too. I tried changing them as well i have tried uncommenting in the plugins.cfg.
I dont have extra AV software.
I would send you Logfile.log, but there is none in the main game folder.
And sorry if you may misunderstand something, english is not my native language.
Edit: My bad. Logfiles are one more folder down. I will send you next minutes.
You will probably get an error message box, please let me know what it says.
The log file is located in the GearCity folder, per the wiki links above.
Also note, if you edit the plugins.cfg without adjusting other settings files, you can break the game.
I dont get any extra message. its just not starting.
I didnt changed anything else.
Yeah but Gearcity is already Mainfolder in Steam, there doesnt stand its in another SUBfolder with same name. ;)
Steammapps/commons/GearCity
Inside of that GearCity folder is another GearCity folder, which contains the settings and log files for the game.
About Folder: Yeah. But your wiki link doesnt say that clearly. That was the confusing part for me for a moment.
Hope you can see why is not working.
If i can help you more to find out, let me know.
Sidenote: I played some minutes with 32-bit if you need to know. At moment i already opt out of the 32-bit. Still not working.
So to clarify,
1) You are not using any anti-virus software. Including Windows Defender or any other programs.
2) You are subscribed to None/Default or Testing build.
3) You have attempt to run GearCity.exe directly from the main folder and got no error messages, popups, or anything what so ever.
4) You have completely undid everything you edited by hand. (Please note, uninstalling the game from Steam does not always remove files that a user touches by hand.)
If you're doing #3, and not getting any sort of error message, and nothing is saved in the log, then it sounds like to me Anti-Virus software is blocking the program from running. Any sort of library loading causes a windows popup message upon error. The next step for the game is to load up the chromium webbrowser and link it to the helper program. (Possible place for AV software to block the game), the next step is creating the log file and start logging messages.
So if you have anything like Defender running, now is the time to let me know.
If there is no anti-virus software running on your machine, the next step for us would be to remote desktop into your machine. Let me know, and I'll send you an email with the information on how we go about that.
If there is AV, let me know which one, and we'll dig up to see if it's doing any blocking.
2) Correct im not subscribed to any other build yet (just as i tried 32bit, which was working)
3) from the Mainfolder i get error message. Sry if you wanted that one: Anwendungsfehler "Diese Anwendung konnte nicht korrekt gestartet werden (0xc000007b). Klicken sie auf "Ok" um die Anwendung zu schließen. "
Logfiles arent changed after.
4) Yeah i undid it. (It was just one "#" to comment the D3D out)
I can uninstall, delete Folder and reinstall (so theres nothing "changed" left for sure) and its still the same.
Edit for 3) Running as Admin doesnt change anything. And the VC Packages i already reinstalled (both) as well the oalinst.exe. Just sayin.
Thanks for providing the error message! It seems like you have the same issue as this fellow: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/app/285110/discussions/0/1777135944132610921/#c1777135944132717512
Generally this error comes from problems with the VC++ redistributables or issues with your Windows install. As you said above, you already tried reinstalling the redistributables, try running the game in compatibility mode as Windows 7 and as administrator. If that fails, locate msvcp140.dll, vcruntime140.dll, msvcp120.dll, and msvcr120.dll on your system and copy them into the same folder as GearCity.exe. (They should be in C:\Windows\SysWOW64)
If both of those fail to work, let me know, and I might have you do something like load the game in Dependency Walker and we'll figure out why the game can't see the proper dll files on your computer.

Copied all 4 Files into Mainfolder: Same Error.
Combined both: Same Error.
Dependency Walker Looks like many errors.
Can i send you like a logfile from that somehow? That .dwi file is a log or something you may need?
You'll want this link down toward the bottom "Download Version 2.2.6000 for x86 (Windows 95 / 98 / Me / NT / 2000 / XP / 2003 / Vista / 7 / 8)"
Run depends.exe, then File, Open, navigate to GearCity.exe and open it. It will take a while to load, when it's done, do File, Save As, save the DWI file, and email it to me.
Mail is out.
I did with the x64 Depency Walker file. Does it make a difference? If yes i will do with the x86 again. Let me know.
