Engine Issue/bug?
Having a weird problem with engine design. I start the game, first chassis/engine/gearbox I design. I do the assisted design, create a truck chassis, then go to engine. Click select chassis, then go up to vehicle type and click truck. It says that the design fits the Chassis....but half of the time I will finish all three research projects and it will tell me that I don't have a qualified engine when I go to design a vehicle.

When I looked at my last engine it looks like the width was one inch too much for the chassis, may be incidental, but either way it always says that the design fits and never tells me that it will not for the engine. Which has been obnoxious....

Are you on v1.24 or Testing Build v1.25? If you're on Testing Build, there was an update that was released out last night that may have broke a couple of things in the component selection screen. This update was rolled back this morning, so restart Steam to download it.

If you're not on Testing Build, or have no idea what Testing Build is, then you're on v1.24. The current development is a bit too far ahead for me to go back to this version.

But if you could send me the save game with the chassis and engine that doesn't fit, I can try to duplicate your issue in v1.25. That being said, I haven't ran into this issue myself. And I use assisted build almost exclusively.

Anyhoo, how to send a save game: http://wiki.gearcity.info/doku.php?id=troubleshooting:steam_savegamefile

Thanks.

Gave it a 5th and final go. I went in and it gave me the message that we have no engines designed and completed that fit our current chassis.

I went into the engine and these are the specs:

So the problem is that it is too large for the Chassis by 2 inches:

But even when I go back to the design page and max all of the specs, which I certainly did not do/can't afford to do, the largest engine it says it will make is a width of 35 inches, and says that it will fit the chassis.

So I'm not really sure what the issue is here exactly...

Sorry for not clarifying up front, I am on the testing build 1.25 R2. I'll try restarting.... I made an immediate follow up engine and that one works completely maxed out, but the smaller one was made inexplicably larger.

I can send you the file if you wish, but I would just start a new game and it happened 3 in 4 times... The second engine I just created with maxed out sliders fit somehow.... :hmm:

Not sure what the third picture is supposed to show.

If you could send me the file, that will be helpful, as the pictures don't show what's going on internally.

Also verify that you closed steam down completely, and restarted it, thus you're on v1.25 RC2 and not v1.25RC Hotfix #1. You may want to just do a file verification to confirm: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335

I can confirm that the issue is in Hotfix #1, but I can't duplicate it on plain RC2. So yeah, restart steam completely and/or verify game cache to roll back the patch I released last night.

Restarted steam completely and verified my local files. Still happening.

Below are my last two save games...

The hotfix does not change the build identifier.

Thanks for the save games, I will take a look at it sometime before the hotfix is rerolled out. In the meantime, jot down the size of the chassis you are before designing the engine in the assisted designer.

After getting a chance to look at your save games, it looks like the issue is related to rotary engines and not the selection issues that is in HF#1. Both give similar problems though.

I was able to duplicate it on plain RC2 using a rotary engine, but not on standard engine formats (Straight, Flat, V, etc.)

I will try to get the root cause of it, and slip it into HF#1 before I send that out. I will let you know on here when I get it fixed.

Hmm weird, I'm glad you were able to identify the issue though and I wasn't just crazy. When do you think you'll have a new hotfix out? Not sure I wan't to start a new game without all of your recent fixes/changes. Thank you for your prompt replies.

Just released it. The fix for the rotary engine assisted designer was not included. As the fix to the hotfix did not require re-compiling (which takes several hours). Whereas a fix to the rotary engine assisted designer issue would require recompiling. I am going to work on that issue tonight, you will get the fix in the next update, be it a Hotfix #2 or v1.25.

In the mean time, if you decided to make a rotary, radial, and probably a wankel engine in the assisted designer, be aware that the chassis sizer is probably not working properly due to the roundness of these engines.

I'll let you know when I get it fixed.

Fixed the issue. It'll be in the next patch.

Still running into issues even later in the game with different components...

Designed some sedan parts in 1920 for a new sedan, but for what ever reason I don't seem to be able to fit them to the vehicle. The select button to fit any different types of engines or gearboxes isn't even available. I've attached the save game if you would like to take a look. Maybe I've done something dumb, but the dimensions for the engine appear to fit on paper, and it didn't give me any warning signs.
