steam will not download linux version of the game on linux
i'm not sure if this is a problem with steam or with the game, but I can't get steam to download the linux version of the game, it will only get the windows version. I don't have the game set up to use proton and none of the betas will download the correct version either. trying to launch the game, video settings, or mod tools just gives an error about the executable not being found. verifying the integrity of the game files also doesn't do anything.

ok i fixed this issue by setting the compatibility in the game properties to "steam linux runtime". it updated and gave me the linux files after that, then I had to disable the compatibility option before it would launch.

I wonder if valve is doing that by default now, or was it a toggle you flipped previously...

I'm not sure, I don't think I've ever played the game on windows or enabled steam play for gearcity so I don't know why it would get the windows version. it even downloaded the windows files after a complete reinstall. normally if a game has a linux version and you're using the linux steam client, it will get the linux version

Odd. Well, a quick search online shows you're not the only person to run into this issue.

Personally, I keep proton disabled in the settings completely. When I want to use a Windows game, I just run the Windows client straight from WINE.

Anyway, glad you got it worked out. Nothing on my end though, sounds like a steam client bug.
