After full release, I will attempt to raise money from the community to add more features to the game. When milestones are reached, contributors will vote on what I add next. One of the many features to be voted on is extending the game years.
Of course, this requires community funding and vote, thus is not guaranteed.
That being said, for me, extending the game year requires new artwork. Every decade costs about $5000-$7000, which is about 3-4 months of GC's net revenues (and my income). So it's not going to happen officially unless prefunded by the players.
The game does allow you to play past 2020, and you can easily mod the game to have future tech, extend the world map time lines etc. The tools are all there to do it, even without artwork.
